Hi EOS, very informative report. Quite useful Considering going to Khajuraho for a couple of days during our holiday in India. Have a few queries and hope you or anyone else can help answer them. 1. How does one go about travelling in town if we don't have our own vehicle ? Are the Western group of temples walkable from Hotel Payal ? 2. Did you go to the Eastern group of Temples as well ? If we take a flight from Delhi, we will reach Khajuraho in the afternoon. Thinking of going to the Eastern group of temples that afternoon/evening and the Western group of temples the following day. Would you recommend that ? 3. By any chance, did you check out the Tourist Village or Tourist Bungalow ? These are supposedly run by MP Tourism but I can't find them on the MP Tourism website. 4. Did you scout for any good location to shoot sunrise/sunset with the temples as backdrop ? Thanks for your replies, in advance. Have a good day.

Khajuraho is a small place, it is easy to walk to all the temples. We also liked the English version of the "sound and light show" at the western group.

vonkla, thanks. we will certainly check out the light and sound show. right now we are exploring what else we can do other than the eastern and western group of temples. we are a bit disappointed that the tickets to the western group of temples is a 'single entry' ticket. we thought of going there early in the morning, then take a break for lunch, rest for a while and get back in the late afternoon to photograph the sunset and watch the light and sound show later. however, it seems that once we go out, we need to buy another ticket to get back in.

Hi! Youren 1. Yes they are walkable distance from Hotel Payal. May be 1 kilometer. 2. No We didn't go to eastern group. However you can certainly go to eastern group in the afternoon after you check in your hotel. 3. No idea about the Tourist Village. If its not on the website then most probably it isn't run by MP Tourism. 4. It was damn cold (by our standards) so did not venture out early in the morning However its a beautiful place. No dearth of photographic oppurtunities. If you have a day spare then you can take the morning safari to Panna national park. You may not see much of wildlife but its still fun going into the jungle before sunrise. On return from safari you can checkout Pandawa caves which are also in the forest. Beautiful place .... Have a nice time...

Another thing you can do is visit the nearby Ken Gharial Sanctuary. Even if you don't see the Gharials it is a fantastic scenery. We were there in January 2005.

Thanks EOS and Vonkla for your very constructive replies. Much appreciated. Will definitely include a trip to Panna national park in our itinerary, and if time permits Ken Gharial sanctuary as well. Thanks once again. If you folks know of a reliable travel agent in Khajuraho, please do share. We would like to rent a car and drive around Khajuraho and nearby places.

Do not worry about travel agents. There will be many in Khajuraho. Once you land there you can check out in the evening about the rates and other things. This way you will get a much competitive rates. You can tell us the number of days you want to spend in MP and the places you want to see and also the number of persons. Perhaps then someone will be able to guide you in a better way..

| There's certainly no shortage of people who will take you (by cycle rickshaw) to the Eastern group of temples. While not as lavish or intricate as the Western group, they are certainly worth the effort to visit. Love the photos of the river - when I was there, it hadn't rained & all I got to see was where the waterfall would have operated and what it looked like as a near empty area :-) Cheers Zoltan
