khajuraho to bhopal

after reading some horror stories on MP roads, it's getting discouraging but here's a question: has anyone go by car from khajuraho to bhopal? is it doable in a day (how many hrs?)? if it is really BBAD, we would go back to jhansi and train down to bhopal instead (this still take 8-9 hrs of travel anyway). thank you for any suggestion.

Hi Adrianh,

Roads in M.P. are not very good but similar of the rest of India. The best way to go from Khajuraho to Bhopal is by car/bus to Jhansi and then by train to Bhopal, very good service between Jhansi and Bhopal. If you travel during the day take ACChair is cheap and very good. Once in Bhopal to visit Sanchi is a must.

How about doing the journey overnight?

Mahoba is the closest train station to Khajuraho, a bus between the 2 will take less than 3 hours.

The following train only runs 2 days a week.

Train 1070 departs Mahoba (Mondays + Wednesdays only) at 21:07 and gets to Bhopal at 05:45 the following morning.

2-tier air con = Rs 799
3-tier air con = Rs 514
Sleeper Class = Rs 194 (not air con)

The train is poorly timed in the opposite direction.

Hi Adrianh,

To stay for a day in Orchha is a great idea, you will enjoy the palaces, temples and chattries of the village. You can get a fantastic room in Shees Mahal (a wing of the Maharaja's palace) for only 800 Rs, is worth the money.
