Hi,
I am planning to travel to khajuroa, orcha and gwalior on 18/8/10 and this is my tentative iterenary,
1. 18/8/10 = Depart from bangalore at 7.35 am flight and arrive at khajuroa around 1.00 pm, check into the hotel and later visit the temples.
2. 19/8/10 = Depart to orcha after lunch and arrive late evening at orcha.
3. 20/8/10 = Orcha
4. 21/8/10 = depart to gwalior, sight seeing and stay at gwalior.
5. 22/8/10 = Take a morning train to delhi and later fly to bangalore in the evening.
My questions ;
1. Does this iternary seems sensible or do i need one more day to cover these places.
2. How will be wheather, raining or cloudy.
3. I have narrowed down to some hotels like
a) khajurao = taj chandela and usha bundela
b) Orcha = amar mahal and orcha resort
c) gwalior = usha kiran palace.
I would request fellow members to suggest/comment on this iterenary and hotels.
thanks in advance.

You will be in Khajuraho in the middle of August so you will face either one of the two conditions: Bright sunny day with blue skies and puffs of white clouds, or overcast skies with rain and thundershowers. I have been visiting the area off and on for four years now and that is how it is through July and August.

Also Khajuraho itinerary seems a bit rushed. If you had one more day, you could have explored the temples a bit better (there is more to Khajuraho than just the Western Group of temples)

Also you could visit the nearby (and highly recommended) forts od Ajaygarh and Kalinjar.

this sounds good.

About the time, Monsoons have their own charm. The soaring temples against the backdrop of elephant grey clouds is a scene to watch. In October, while you are assured of good weather, you will also be assured of a sea of tourists! So take your pick

I have travelled there on work for MPSTDC (MadhyaPradesh State Tourism Developement Corporation) so be it Kahajuraho or Orchha, i have always stayed in MPSTDC accomodations, which are very good
but both the placed being on the traditional tourist map, you will not have any problems finding good places to stay. Wherever you stay, make sure its in or near town and trust me, book in advance!

we went this december to Khajuraho, Orchha, Kalinjar, Panna (only the waterfalls), Gwalior from Delhi (driving). 2 days in Khajuraho are enough. 2 in Orchha are an overkill - 1 day (actually an evening for the ramraja temple aarti + another day to see the palaces and other temples) is enough. You could try a detour to Kalinjar - the drive is long but a day trip to that place is well worth it. Good luck!

4/9/10 = take a taxi to orchha and reach by afternoon, night stay at orchha
5/9/10 = orchha
6/9/10 = take the kerala express train to delhi departure jhansi at 7 am and reach delhi around 2 pm, drive straight to the airport to catch the last flight to bangalore.
Have i missed any places, is the time enough for khajuroa and orchha as i have visited varanasi many times and i will also be visiting varanasi during dev depavali again in november.

seems like a fair itinerary, you know Benares so I will add just about Orchha and Khajuraho,
both are small places, and sights are not spread out too much, so you can easily cover all these
in the given time. Suggest hiring a bicycle at Khajuraho to explore the village area also and
Orchha can be covered on foot mostly.

Though Gwalior is not a hot tourist destination, I liked the place quite well - I mean the fort and all if you are interested in historical places. It would be nice if you can sneak in one more day for that.
Orchha is splendid and the Khajuraho temples are magnificent as well. Been to Khajuraho long back. Read somewhere that photographs are no longer allowd inside the temple complex. Is is true? Heard of Raneh falls near Khajuraho but did not visit myself.
Varanasi has its own old world charm especially the ghats and the narrow lanes.
You may go through my blog to read my experiences in these places.

If you are keeping 2 days for Orcha, then why dont u include Shivpuri in your itinerary? Its just a suggestion....

Shivpuri is around 120 kms from Orcha and 105 kms from Gwalior. You will find a National Park there if you are interested in wildlife.

Deep,
The raneh falls can be visited without entering Panna national park. They're beautiful but a long way off the road. The Pandav caves are a much shorter detour and are more serene. Photography is permitted as of December 2009 inside the temples ...

Hi,
I have changed my iterenary after some suggestion from fellow member :
2/9/10 = Take a flight to delhi arriving at 12.15 pm, check into hotel ginger at new delhi railway station.
I would like to try some good north indian veg food for afternoon lunch close by ndls/cannaught place/koral bagh and then try the paratha's near jumma masjid for my diner.
How far is jumma masjid from new delhi railway station.
How much will an auto driver charge.
3/9/10 = Take the early morning shatabdi express to gwalior, reach gwalior around 9.30 am, check in taj usha kiran palace, visit fort, palace etc and stay at gwalior.
4/9/10 = Take a taxi early morning to orchha and on the way visit datia and reach orchha by afternoon and stay at bunldalkand riverside at orrcha.
5/9/10 = Take a taxi early evening to khajuroa and stay at taj chandela.
6/9/10 = Leisurely visit khajuroa.
7/9/10 = take a direct flight to bangalore.
I would like fellow members to give their suggestion.
with regards
