Shortest would be Bhopal, Hoshangabad and straight to Jabalpur, the roads are drivable now, from reports of friends who have done the route, should take about 6-8 hours. From Jabalpur to Kanha also road is good, will look up my logs and see let you know about distances etc., to this route.

thanks arkz
actually i was seeing two routes both are same upto obedullaganj, i think 50 km from bhopal then i follow NH , or i take the route via hoshangabad via pipariya then on to narsingapur onward to jabalpur , the second one is very good upto pipariya as i have travelled the same while going to panchmari.i would like to know about the first route is it advisable and second is are there any travel time difference between the two.

I think Obedullaganj and then a left turn would take you without touching Hoshangababad. I took the Indore, Kannod, Harda, Hosangabad, Pipariya, Panchmarhi and then took the Narsingpur-jabalpur route, very bad roads from Indore to Kathelgaon, the rest good roads as you said.On checking the maps, your shortest would be without touching Hoshangabad and straight to Jabalpur? Most taxis take this route to Jabalpur as I heard from some people at Jabalpur. I think the Hoshangabad route would be LONGER by 50-75 kms (will have to check my maps / records etc., I have the primary research, did a lot of it for my trip to MP), will let you know.

Got some data from my records: Bhopal to Ubaidulaganj, 35kms on NH12, left turn on NH12 towards Bareli, Ubaidullaganj to Bareli - 75 kms, Baraili to Udaipura - 35 kms, Udaipura - Deori, Tendukheda, Suatala - 58 kms, Suatala-Satanpur-shahpur= 68 kms, Shahpur-Jabalpur=30 kms, total of about 300 kms, Ok roads, no great worries as per reports received January, 2009, drive time about 6-8 hours.
Other route form Bophar-Ubaidulaganj-Hoshangabad-Sohagpur-Pipariya-Bankeri-Gadarwara-Kareli-Narsimpur-Gategaon-shahpur-Jabalpur=350 kms, about 50 kms more, would take 30 mts to 1 hour more of drive time. Since you have already done this route, why not try the first alternative which is shorter.
Still would suggest you speak to some taxi drivers nearby and get the latest intel on the Tendukheda route, they are reported to be takin that route for a Bhopal to Jabalpur.
Hope this helps,

Hai,Sorry I missed your post.
I took the Kannod route, wanted to test the bad roads, really bad till Nasrullaganj, from there thro Harda Hosangabad it was great. On the way back, I took the Bhopal-Dewas-Indore route, much better.
On a Palio, I'd suggest the Bhopal route, the section from Indore to Kannod is a rim burster.

thanks arkz , did the second route a week back, a intel on the distance it is exactly 330 km only 30 odd km more , the drive time is 7 hrs with half an hour stoppage . the road is narrow but fantastic except a strech of 15 km near narsingpur , a braod expressway is being built there . remaing parts are good , i did almost 110 kph on by SX4 in most open streches.
Hi,
Wanted some information about drive from Kanha to Bandhavgarh. Would it be safe to cover this distance at night?
Basically we have 3 days and wanted to do 6 safaris. So we were wondering if we should leave after Kanha evening safari and reach at night, or leave Kanha after morning safari and hopefully reaching Bandhavgarh on time for evening safari. What do you think?

MP roads
Hi, Just been to MP/Kanha and wanted to update on the road conditions. We flew into Nagpur from Hyderabad and then planned to drive to kanha- about 260 KM which we did in 4 1/2 hrs in May this year. The roads were very good throughout. What a change from then to now- driving on NH7 was a nightmare. Except 20 km stretches of 2 patches, the road is horrendous after the monsoons. It took 6 1/2 hrs including a 45 min traffic jam near the bridge/railway crossing just outside Nagpur. The road is good (SH)only after Seoni.
Imagine this is one of the main NH of the country!! What a sham!!

My verdict on the roads we used:
1. Nagpur to Kanha: We took the Seoni-Nainpur route. Some stretches are very bad.. mostly in the MP side. Distance of 260 km took around 5 hrs. We left at around 4 PM and reached at around 9 PM.
2. Kanha-Bandhavgarh: Initially we were thinking of covering this distance at night. But the stretch from Kanha to Bandhavgarh has no lights and very few villages in between. If your car gets messed in between, there is practically nothing on the route. So we decided to proceed to Bandhavgarh after the morning safari in Kanha itself, thinking we may be able to make it in time. Which we did not. Takes around 5.5 hrs.
3. Bandhavgarh-Jabalpur: Smooth roads but very zig zag.
Again, I think it's advisable that these distances are covered in daylight itself. The latest we were out on the road was 8 PM.
Thanks

What is the present road condition of NH 3 from Indore to Gwalior via Guna/Shivpuri? I am planning to drive in my FIAT Linea on that route in few weeks if it is in drivable condition. Kindly advise.
