Bus from Jhansi - Khajuraho
Bus from Jhansi - Khajuraho
Anyone having an idea of the timings of the buses plying between Jhansi and Khajuraho and back ? It would be easier for me to plan Orcha and Khajuraho if i know the bus times.
What time is the earliest bus from Jhansi ? My train reaches around 5 in the morning..
And are there good buses and bad buses ?
Any other modes of transport ??

Reason: More Questions :))
Bus from Jhansi - Khajuraho
There are plenty of private buses from Jhansi (out side railway station) to Khajuraho. Right from 4 AM they will be calling passengers for Khajuraho. Most of them start by 6.30 onwards till they get passengers.
There logic is to reach Khajuraho by after noon, as most of the hotels are having 12 noon check out time. The same bus will start from Khajuraho in the after noon and reach Jhansi back by evening / night as the case may be.
A few of the Government buses also do ply, but I am sorry I can't give the timings.
I had been by private bus once, and they are usually good. Confirm with the man which bus is leaving at what time and see the same and buy your ticket. Most of them are 2x2.
YOu can also hire a shared taxi, but can't say when it will start and confirm number of seats he is going to take before embarking on it.
Trust this information helps you.
With warm wishes and happy journey.

They look interesting.

I tried last year.
there was a public bus leaving Jhansi at 12, the fare was around 100 or 200 rs for a 7 hours ride. It was not a five star bus definitely. There are many cars/taxis that come to Jhansi from Kajuraho, so you can try to get one of those coming back to Kajuraho which will make you a good price. We were 3 people and for 900 rs "hired" one of these cars which took around 4 hr to get to kajuraho.

I just took a bus from Jhansi to Khajuraho a few days ago. There are buses leaving at
6.00 am, 8.30 am, 11.00 am, 11.45 am, 1.15 am
and a few additional ones that leave in the late afternoon (around 5 or so). The ticket was 120 Rs per person and the ride took roughly 6 hours. No, it's definitely not a five star bus!
For up to date information, see the office of Madhya Pradesh Tourism on platform 1 of the Jhansi train station, especially about connections via train which have been established lately.
As it is still the top search result on Google, I posted in this pretty old thread.

Tim, how's that stretch of the road now (in case one drives one's own car) ?

A much later answer, but for anyone looking, the Jhansi to Khajuraho road is an absolute disgrace - or at least it was on 9 February 2012. The road doesn't exist in some places, and is barely passable in others. If anyone is planning to take a vehicle on this road, go in nothing less than a 4WD.
Arijitraja, I have visited Orchha as well as Khajuraho couple of weeks ago. You can get a shared rikshaw from Jhansi to Orchha. It is just 16KM. I stayed at Orchha for 2 nights (well, I see every bit of details in every monument, Sound and light show etc). There are many private buses from Jhansi to Khajuraho. I took a bus at 7:45AM. Fairly good bus but, bumpy road. It took around 4 hrs to reach Khajuraho.
In Dec 2011 I took the train from Jhansi to Kajuraho on a general ticket. The train left around 9:00 am and it was pretty full. The hotels near the station know the schedule. It took about 6 hours, can't remember the cost but it was very cheap.
This train splits at Mahoba, that is, the train is uncoupled at Mahoba and half of the train goes one way and the other half goes to Kajuraho. This can be a little confusing and fortunately, lots of nice Indians helped me.
Make sure you are in the right section (bogey) of the train. So it's a little messy!

It might be the best of times or the worst of times...but it's the only time you've got!
Mainly private buses ply between Jhansi and Khajuraho, but direct bus service to Khajuraho is limited. There is small town named Bomitha which is around 10km away from Khajuraho. All buses from Jhansi to Satna and Rewa sector go via Bomitha. From Bomitha frequent trecker and auto rickshaw services are available to Khajuraho.
