At the end of June, I will be relocating to Bhopal for 9-10 weeks of research at the MP State Archives. I've read all the city and hotel reviews I can find, but still haven't decided where I should stay once I get there. Ideally, I'd like a hotel or B&B with AC and internet, but the only thing I'm coming up with that meets those requirements are the heritage hotels for thousands of rupees per night. Has anyone here stayed long(er) term in Bhopal?

What is your budget? A hotel room with A/C and internet would be hard to come by for less than a thousand rupees.
Renting an apartment is not an option for such a short term. The best you could do is negotiate a discounted rate with one of the hotels or guest houses, given that you would be staying for 2 months. |

when i was in bhopal in 2003, i stayed at hotel classic in arera colony. it had AC. don't remember the price; midrange and they gave me a discount for being a foreigner (opposite of what is usual!). did not have internet then, but perhaps now... nice place, popular with indian families, affluent neighborhood, right next to a nice bazaar with some good dhabas and the number ten bus stop. no website, but you can find the phone number online.

Thanks, I'll look into the Classic. I'm more concerned with internet--I need it for daily work--than AC, but it would be lovely to find a place with both. 1000 rupees/night is easily within my budget, and I would pay more for internet.

Bhopal ..The city of Lakes
I think the office which you have mentioned (MP State Archives ) is at Banganga Road, Bhopal. The ideal residential areas close to this place are Shamla hills,T T Nagar,M.P.Nagar etc. Arera Colony will be lil far from that area and then it depends that what will be your mode of commuting/transport.
For Rs.1000/ per night I doubt you will get a good clean n decent Hotel.I suggest you to better settle for B&B or Paying Guest accomodation which will not only ensure hygenic, safe and comfortable stay along with nice home made food and facilities like internet & TV also. This will fall in your budget also.I know a person in Bhopal who arranges accomodation for outstation students and expats. If you need any assistance, I will mail you his tel.no/email-id. |

Thanks, Ronit, I'd love that contact information. A B&B would be a good match, but I'm really too old for a PG. My e-mail is snjr22 at yahoo dot com. Thanks!
