Bearing mind that I'm going to be generally heading south-east from Orchha down to Mumbai.....is Gwalior worth a detour north for the fort? I saw a picture once with some great tile work but am wondering if that's it for the fort. I'll can probably check out Dalautabad (sp?) near the Ellora caves if I feel strongly about forts at that stage. So... I guess what I'm asking is....is Gwalior a must see? Thanks.

Agree with the paan wallah here - you'll get a calmer view of a fort at Daultabad (and it looks out on open country rather than the hubbub of Gwalior). Personally, I'd have an afternoon in Daultabad to catch the atmosphere (most of the tour groups stop only long enough for their breathless patrons to climb the steps), but any visit is better than none.

Thanks to both of you.... what I'm thinking now is that I'll head from Khajuraho to Orccha and then head south to Sanchi, Mandu and Omkareshwar before heading in to Maharashta. Midnite Toker - I see you've booked a ticket to Delhi. Where are you going to go this time?

Hi, Maree.
I have few firm plans at the moment - my main aim is to escape the foul winter here in Vienna. Three months away. Orchha may be on the list, as I'd like to head to either Kanha or Bandhavgarh NP and it's kind of on the way. There will probably be a beach halt and a mountain stretch (Garhwal/Kumaon) in there somewhere as well... MT |

Lucky you - 3 months. I've only got a month this time ... hence, concentrating on one area. Kanha & Bandhavgarh both look good - have you been there before?
