I have been to Pachmarhi before, so I don't think I am going to be taken by surprise by the amount of walking required (in fact that is the reason we chose this place, coz both of us love trekking) My only problem was that the last time I went we took our own vehicle (and our own sweet time!!!) so wasn't sure about public modes of transport or the exact time. Got the help I needed on that here, thanks

Patalkot is not so far from Pachmari, have you walked around that side - quite stunning down into the deep valleys.

MP tourism hotels are OK, they are the established ones with year round infrastructure, there are many small ones, will dig into my archives and come up with options some time next week. When are you going. 3-4 days are OK, though one can spend even 7-8 days, if you have the time to explore deep into the waterfalls, valleys, temples etc., there's so much to see. In 3-4 days, you'd be able to hit the high-spots on a moderate pace, in November, 2008, I finished off most spots in 2 days and felt very stressed; I now feel I should have planned 4 full days. Panchmarhi, Bophal and Bophal-Indore is the best option(buses are available, not great on frequency and comfort, you'll have to search the web / postings to find exact timings etc) Most people reach till Bophal by train and take a taxi / bus and reach Panchmarhi. I was self-driving, took the Indore-Kannod-Harda-Hoshangabad-Panchmarhi route, NOT TO BE TRIED, horrible roads; practically no bus connectivity. I missed out on Pathalkoat, reportedly, it's worth a visit, there's a thread/ posts here somewhere about the place. I think there may be trains from Nagpur to Bhopal or Indore, that would be a good option, don't know for sure. Happy Hunting, --ARKX |

I think it would be open at the falls for a visit, I doubt if they'd allow the boat ride thro the rocks; you need to ride thro. the rocks to really understand the grandeur. Wish you luck, --ARKZ |

We went to Pachmarhi in aug-1995 and really loved it... I'm sure it has changed a lot since then... The one thing i remember about the place is that there are no thefts in the place... our rented bicycles didn't have locks on them !!
If you want to go by train, the nearest station is Pipariya which is about 2.5 hours from Bhopal (Bhopal-Itarsi-Pipariya)... there are regular buses from the station (but not comfortable ones)... |

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to Pachmari, you went in August? I know it was years ago but can you remember if it was heavy monsoon then? I can't wait to go but I'm worried it will be raining all the time and we won't be able to see anything.
Any advice about traveling in the region in monsoon season would be great. |

Hi Sophie and Dave,
I've never been in Pachmarhi in the monsoon but I remember talking to a guesthouse owner who said that it's pretty crap really during the monsoon (not her words!) because you can't see anything. I imagine it's like being in the clouds as you're high up. And to be honest I can't see that there would be much point being there if you can't see the views and the forest etc. Sorry to be bringing not-so-good news, but hopefully someone will be along with first-hand experience. |

Thanks for your honest views. I was in Thailand during the monsoon season last year and when it rained you couldn't see much but when it stopped it cleared up a bit. Does anyone have any experiences in this region during monsoon? I am hoping the same applies to this region of India.

yes, we went in August... it rained twice in our 3 day stay for a few hours each day... and it was generally cloudy... but we were young then
and didn't care... the views were blocked most of the time... but they were nice in their own way (green, misty hills)... the waterfalls were in full flow too... and there are many secluded ones... with so few tourists, we had the place to ourselves ![]() |

Btw, marble rocks should be accessible in Jabalpur in July because you take a boat ride to see them... there are few waterfalls around the area too which should be in good shape
some websites i visited mentioned that winter/monsoon is the best time to visit those rocks... we went there in winter, but many million years back |

The train from Delhi reaches you at 4-00 in the morning. how can one proceed towards Panchmarhi at that time? or it will be better to stay in Panchmarhi till 8-9-10 AM. any options near or at the station?

Hi I believe you will arrive at Pipalia station, there are Regular Bus/Share Taxi services operating from Pipalia to Panchmari. And because of train timing they will definately operate.
It will take around 2 hours to reach Panchmari from Pipalia. Do not believe on India Railway Time Table, especially on this rout your train will get delay by 1-2 hours. Regards Rushi |
