Hello- What is interesting to see in Jagdalpur?

Never been there but read a lot about Jagdalpur. There is Tirathgarh & Chitrakote water fall, Kanger Valley National park etc., Check out http://www.chhattisgarhtourism.net/

BTW your location shows Chhastisgarh, new to the place ?

Last October I 've been in Jagalpur for a week during Dussehra Festival. The city is very interesting and colorful with loads of tribal population and nice daily markets, the best is probably Sanjay Market.

From Jagdalpur you can visit Chitrakoot and Tirattgarh falls, both are interesting but really Chitrakoot (mini Niagara) is an impresive waterfall.

From Jagdalpur you should visit "Haats" or weekly markets, normally is easy and cheap to go to the markets by bus or shared jeep. Mardum is the best weekly market I've seen in India (I've seen dozens and dozens...), Dharba, Kodenar, Lohandiguda too are interesting markets to visit.

One way of going is by road from Raipur . It will take at least 7 hours by bus. I am told it is much faster in the night as the bus stops a lot less. The journey is great by road. By train, I think it from Vizag. Through the Arrakku valley. Supposed to be beautiful

I plan to make this trip in first/second week of August. Any idea what are the road conditions like at that time if I travel from Raipur?
Also, any information about stay/hotels would be appreciated.

Road from Raipur is good. (My info is one year old).

There are a few hotels in Jagdalpur. But I suggest you stay at Chitrakote. There is a nice resort over there next to the Chitrakote falls.

I visited the place of Jagdalpur in Dec, 2008. Actually we came here from Vizag via Jaypur(Orissa) by car. Two spectacular falls are there. One is Tirodhgarh and the other is Chitrakoot. Chitrakoot Falls looked dry during that time but it might be more beautiful in Monsoon. Tirodhgarh was really nice to visit. The way to this falls (through Kangra Valley Natioanl Park) was very thrilling and scenic beauty of this spot was really engrossing. Near Tirodhgarh we did not find any place to stay but at Chitrakoot Falls, there is a huge bunglow of Irrigation Deptt which could be booked fron their respective office. Without that permission, none is allowed to stay there.

Thanks for your feedback. My wife & me are planning to go there during Sept. End / Oct Start. Hope at that time Chitrakote are in full flow. There is a Chhattisgarh Tourism resort over there with AC Accomodation with each room over looking the water fall. We have total of 6 days in Bastar. Please share some more info. which could be helpful in our trip. Where did you stay in Jagdalpur ?

Hotel Rainbow is an good option. One of our IM'er Vonkla had stayed there and has recommended it in a couple of posts.

Actually we did not stay at Jagdalpur. After visiting those falls we came back to Jaypore(Orissa) by car after driving for almost 3 hrs on the same day evening and stay at Jaypore in a Hotel. On the next day morning, we started for Araku which is 2 hrs Drive away from Jaypore. I think Jagdalpur is accessible from Raipur by bus and Raypur is accessible via train from any part of our Country. So u can plan in that way. And for staying accomodation, it will be better for you to go there with proper booking from Chattishgarh Tourism as September / October is peak time for travelers. Other thing upon which I like to bring your notice is that, as Monsoon like to prevail over India in that time(September/October), the places near Chitrakoot have chance to get flooded. We even heard about it from the local people there. So please gather detail informations regarding this thing.
