Indore to pachmarhi will be via Bhopal -Hoshangabad-Pipariya. Indore to bhopal is good with some rough surface inbetween. Bhopal to Pachmarhi is great. Went there in May and the road was great.

Pachmarhi - Jabalpur

For this you will have to come back to Pipariya. From there you have to go to Bareily (22Kms) to join on NH12. From Bareily to Jabalpur is 180Kms and that road is good.

Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh

No idea about this but should be OK. Roads in MP have now vastly improved. No longer the bone jarring experience.. This has directly refelected in the occupancy of MP tourism hotels.

Have a nice time...

EOS, thanks a lot for the quick response.

I find State Highway 22 from Indore to Kannod to Nasrullaganj to Hosangabad, where it joins NH 12 and goes to Pachmarhi. Going to Bopal is a roundabout way, as I see it in the map, at least 125 kms more, or am I missing somemthing?

Pachmarhi-Pipariya-Barailey-Jabalpur, I just now tracked in on google. Thanks for that pointer.

Great to hear that roads have improved, more people would be motivated to do drive holidays.

At Bandhavgarh, Mugli resorts have given Jungle package of 8000/-all inclusive for A/C twin occupancy per day, everywhere the rates have gone up due to Diwali in October!!!!!!!

No idea about the route you are taking from Indore to Hoshangabad and i have doubt on its condition. You may end up spending more time on road. Standard driving time from Indore to Bhopal is 4 hrs with a break 0f 20mins. And Bhopal to Pachmarhi is again 4 hrs. Are you driving yourself..??

8000/- per day... thats damn expensive...
Have you tried MP tourisms White Tiger Forest Lodge. Its way cheaper. And in October i don't think you would be needing an AC in a jungle.

That's what worries me......... will have to check that out with some taxi / tour operators here or wait for someone here to post somethign about this route

Tried the MPTDC, damn non-responsive, they say systems down for the past 4 days the first quote from them was for Rs.6000/- per double !!!!! This season between 20th Octo and 10 Nov, the rates are pretty shocking, yes, A/C would probably be an extravagance, will check out non/ac options from Mogli.

Yes, I am driving myself, we're road-heads, me and my wife!!!!!

From Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh, normally 4-5 hours will be enough.

Thank you for that information. Did you travel by road and could you see any tigers out there in Bandhavgarh?

From my recent trip to Jabalpur and Chhindwara I realised that the state roads are in much better shape than national highways.

Indore to Pachmarhi thro Hosangabad - Pipariya to Pachmarhi is in very good condition

Pachmarhi to Jabalpur - Pipariya to Kareli is good except for short stretches at two places.

Kareli to Jabalpur via gadarwara and Narsimhapur is good but really bad stretch at Narsimhapur. Thereafter it is good.

NH12 is in a bad shape between Shahpura and Jabalpur!

Hai rangss,

Thanks for that update. Which route did you take from Indore to Pachmarhi, through Bopal or thro. the Kanod Nasarullaganj, whichis shorter by 50 kms but state roads. Everyone is advising me to take the Bopal route, as its the known road, I reckon what's life if you don't explore new roads and new territories

Your update on NH 12 is useful, I'll plan for more drive-time.

How are the facilities in terms of restaurants, fuel stations on these routes, any info. would be useful. Thanks.

I did not come from Indore but from Jabalpur. What I had mentioned eariler was my route in reverse. Secondly, I did not go to Pachmarhi but by-passed it at Matkuli and went to Patalkot instead. I would advise your to make some time and visit Patalkot too. Road from Matkuli to Tamia (about 40 km) is very bad. But from Tamia to patalkot it is 20 km and good road. Check out my pix in

I read in a travel magazine that the Bhopal route is good. But then I share the same sentiment as you. I prefer little known country roads than well known highways.

We had ample fuel stations en route all the way from Nagpur to jabalpur to Chhindwara - even on state roads. restaurants...I am not sure about Indore - Bhopal but we did not have any standard one between Jabalpur and Matkuli. Just earthy little dhabas and chai shops. But the chai, samosas and jilebis were terrific!!!

Arrow Indore-nasarullaganj-hoshangabad?

2. Pachmarhi to Jabalpur: Distance is around 260 km via Pipariya and road conditions have been much improved indeed. Trains are also available from Pipariya Railway Station to Jabalpur.

3. Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh: I travelled alot on this route. Here you can have 3-4 different routes. Popular one is Jabalpur-Katni-Bandhavgarh. From Jbp to Katni(100km), road is good and after that it is average. Katni is congested place and railway crossing is also their that may consume time.

Jabalpur-sleemnabad -umaria-bandhavgarh (200km): is good, road is also good with good scenic beauty after sleemnabad, not suitable for night journey due to forest area and non availability of help in emergency conditions.

Jabalpur-Kumdam -Fossil park (Niwas)-umaria-Bandhavgarh (200km): this is not used by tourist but i used it recently. Road is good with country side sighting. Here we hav a chance to visit Fossil park(100km from Jabalpur city) where 65 millions year old plant fossils are available along with canteen facility.

All the best for your upcoming journey.

Hai Friendindeed,

Thanks a lot for the detailed report. I was not exactly aware of all the options from Jabalpur, distance-wise and your post is a great help to plan for my trip.

The Indore-Hoshangabad option is still wide open. EVERYONE I spoke to told me to take ONLY the Dewas-Sehore-Bhopal-Hosangabad route, which is 250 Kms. The other interesting option, at least on the map, SH-22, Indore-Nasrullagang-Hosangabad, is shorter by at least 75 kms. Till Nasarullagang, I have reports of roads being good, from there to Itarsi or to Hosangabad nobody seems to be having any idea !!!!

Since I have all day to reach Panchmarhi, I am tempted to try this short-cut, have a feeling it would be more vergin.

I will not be traveling during night anywhere.

Thanks a lot, looking forward to friends here on the Indore-Hoshangabad options.

No Problems till Katni, from there you will have to drive slow and easy, avoiding all the pot holes or take them slow. Not to worry, i10 can it all right.

I drove my Scorpio, Jabalpur-Bandhavgarh section through the short cut - about 200 kms, through Katni it would be about 250, an hour more. Most important, travel in the day time only.

Happy Driving,

Question Road from indore to hoshangabad

Just want to get updated about the same. Which one you travelled, Indore - Kannod - Nasrullaganj - Hoshangabad or Indore - Dewas - Sehore - Bhopal - Hoshangabad? If first one (Indore - Kannod....), what is your take on the same, can I plan it in my FIAT PALIO?
