Bhopal to Khajuraho bus?

Is there a bus from Bhopal to Khajuraho? Preferably overnight. If so, does anyone know how long it takes and what it costs?

Thank you!

Also, are there any sturdy but inexpensive (*ahem*) hotels in Khajuraho?

I have heard that there is a 7:30 PM bus ! But why not travel Bhopal - Jhansi in a train and then go to Khajuraho by a a bus.

A train will be certainly more sturdy and better than a MP bus on MP roads......

That makes more sense, yes -- all the stories I'm reading about the M.P. road routes are making me nervous anyway.

Do you think we'll be missing out on a LOT if we don't go to Sanchi?

Ohhh....Now I realised the earlier question on Sanchi too was from you....

See Sanchi has nothing, but a Stupa......

But Bhimbetka was a good idea.............

Yeah. My dad and I have had a two day long conversation about Sanchi and Bhopal and Jhansi - basically two people being wonderfully stubborn xD. The sum total is we're going Bhimbetka on 9th, we're going to try to make it to Bhopal's Bharat Bhavan or the State Museum in the evening, and catch a late night train to Jhansi, so we turn up bright and early in the morning. Assuming no one in the group dies of exhaustion by this point, we'll first go to Orchha, then to Khajuraho where we'll stay for two nights, before returning to Jhansi on 12th to catch a train back to Delhi.

Phew.

^_^

Best of Luck...

Keep plenty of water with you. You'll have to walk to the caves at Bhimbetka and MP summer is harsh......

Have a nice journey......

Sanchi has nothing but a stupa????? It has great art sculptured on the toranas of the stupas (note, plural), plus a lovely little Gupta temple, and remains of a Greek-like temple, and a museum of more exquisite sculptures, and then at nearby Udaigiri there are the Gupta caves, one of which contains the famous bas-relief sculpture of Vishnu Varaha and just down the road there's the 2nd c BC Heliodorus column donated by a Greek ambassador from Taxila, and then there's the Vidisha museum. Plus, the area is really scenic and serene for a relaxing stay.

The road from Bhopal to Sanchi is also scenic and fairly quiet. From anchi, it's a 10km auto ride to Vidisha for the train to Jhansi, where buses leave for Khajuraho. IMHO Snachi is more interesting than Khajuraho. But it's a lovely trip to Khajuraho (road not so good in parts) and now can be done by train! Two trains a day - one from Jhansi and one returning to Jhansi.

I appreciate that you know your places well !

But In my opinion, if you don't have much time, Bhimbetka's prehistoric caves are bigger wonder than Sanchi.

People have different opinions............

True, I like sculpture. I could have visited the caves but they had less appeal for me than historic monuments with beautiful sculptures.

Ooh, well, since we have a really major constraint on time, we decided to see both Orchha and Khajuraho. Reservations for the train I think you're talking about, the KURJ-somethingoranother-link-exp, have been suspended for the days we need them for... >_< so the commuting thing was becoming quite a disaster.

And I agree with you both, actually, because academically speaking both Sanchi and Bhimbetka are veeeeery interesting to me. But I've never seen cave paintings before, so I definitely vote for Bhimbetka over Sanchi, although the idea of skipping the Udaygiri caves makes me very sad.

(However, there's five of us, we may all want different things, and I don't see why all five of us can't do whatever we like. So we may actually alter plans later -- I don't know!)

Oh, though, alouise, I'll definitely keep in mind the thing about buses from Sanchi to Khajuraho and bring them up with my friends. ^_^

Hi I don't know from where are you coming from Rajasthan.

Say you have visited Jaipur at last then you can take a direct train from Jaipur to Damoh (which is 120 KMs from Khajuraho).
Train Name : Dayodaya Express/2182 and taking 12 hours. + 3 hours from Damoh to Khajuraho.

Say you have visited Bandhavgadh at last, then you can take same train from Kota to Damoh (which is 120 KMs from Khajuraho). You can take same train which is taking 8 Hours + 3 hours from Damoh to Khajuraho.

If you have already booked your tickets and your jouney is planned then It is okay, otherwise you can think over this optiion.

Let me know, I will help you to provide traveling details.

Regards
Rushi

Hello, and thanks for replying. We did book the tickets a week or so back. I didn't know about this option, though we are travelling from Jaipur to Bhopal first, then to Jhansi by a late night train and then to Orchha and Khajuraho, where we're going to stay for a couple of days. But this is still very useful information and I shall keep that in mind in the event of a change of plans.

Thanks again,
Manasi
