i am hoping this will be my home base...there is an internet couple who will be accompanying me there from mumbai when i get off the plane, but i am curious to know what travellers have found conditions like in bhopal. are there hotels in new bhopal that are reasonable and what is the difference between them and the ones on hamidia road for instance. salima |

hi wonderwoman!
first because that is where my friends live-they are from madhya pradesh and it is the most appealing part of india to me. i am an idiot....what can i say. i live in cleveland ohio-have you ever been here? it is what i am comfortable with-not big city with glamour glitz, but not small town either. i am thinking bhopal will be the indian counterpart of cleveland ohio. this is the place i am believing i would want to settle down some day-wont know til i try it. i have a lot of places to visit, and bhopal is exactly right in the center. also i am interested in the adivasis.... also i have a feeling of connection with bhopal because of the union carbide thing, which i know makes no sense. call it guilt or shame or social conscience. there are all kinds of things to feel guilty about on this earth, but i can only pick one at a time. i am not going to be a political activist or anything-i just feel drawn there because of these connections, it is hard to explain. i could have just stopped saying 'my friends are there' couldnt i... |

Hamidia road is like the Old Bhopal,....
I love Bhopal for the authentic food (mainly meat, which I've given up) and beautifully restored Willys' Jeep and Jawas'.

Okay, so your friends are there.... and friends DO have a lot to do with how you like a place.
I've been to Cleveland and grew up in Detroit; neither is my ideal place to retire to. Will be interested to hear about how you like Bhopal. |

wonderwoman-i will definitely report back!
and vinay, why would a jeep in india have to be restored? i would have thought they wouldnt have any damage. what are the chances of seeing a 1940 willys coupe? (my favorite when i was a kid) of course i dont drive, but love to see antiques... |
