Reaching Bandhavgarh from Satna
Hi
I have just registered as a member and would appreciate some detailed information on reaching Bandhavgarh from Satna. The MP tourism office couldn't tell us much apart from the fact that taxis are available for a round trip. But we would like to stay atleast 3days at Bandhavgarh, so that would be a very expensive option. Isn't there any public transport? Are there any buses on the Satna-Umaria road? I understand there are a trains from Satna to Umaria but the Indian Rlys site shows these trains as always running hopelessly late. It would be insanity to reach Umaria at one in the morning!Any idea how late the Umaria-bandhavgarh buses and jeeps ply? Am ofcourse not expecting midnight traffic Thanks Shuchi |

To get from Satna to Bandhavgarh take the train to Katni from here there are several local trains that will get you to Umaria and from there it's a 50 minute ride to Tala the entrance village for the park!! I sugest these two trains!! 1062 MFP LTT EXPRESS dep SATNA 06:35 arr KATNI 07:50 8233 NARMADA EXPRESS dep KATNI 09:10 arr UMARIA 10:35 There are also taxis available from Katni to Umaria whuich isn't such a long haul!! |

Thanks a lot for the suggestions ... but we finally decided to give Bandhavgarh a miss this time, because getting to and out of Bandhavgarh seemed too complicated and time-consuming for the other destinations we wanted to cover. We had wanted to go to Khajuraho and finally Orchha after Bandhavgarh, but also got discouraged by the descriptions of the road conditions! We are doing Panna forest this time - this is much more accessible from Satna and very close to Khajuraho. But we will be doing the Kanha-Bandhavgarh circuit next year, so its very reassuring to know that Katni is connected to Umaria by both rail and road. So next time we'll know which station to travel to for Bandhavgarh.
