I suppose you mean the Sheesh Mahal Palace Hotel run by the MP tourism board. Hope you get a reply soon. The hotel is great to stay in especially the two best suites though even the small cheapest rooms are pretty nice. The food in their restaurant is good too. Try calling up on their telephone and Fax number 091-07680-252624 or write to them on their email at mail@mptourism.com in Bhopal where the telephone numbers are 091-0755-2774340-43, 2778383 and Fax is 2774289. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil.

I stayed for three days at the Sheesh Mahal a few weeks ago after booking via email. I think the address was hsmorchha@shancharnet.co.in or similar. They were prompt in replying. Definitely worth staying there if you can, in my opinion.
In terms of must sees in MP I can hardly consider myself an expert but I really liked Mandu. Really laid back and isolated, no hawkers or touts, no internet, virtually deserted palaces and mosques... just a really memorable place. Even more magical for a child I'd say. |

Orchha
Thanks I will try again I have emailed every email address that I've read about and no success..So here goes ..Any other suggestions for MP much appreciated...
Another tricky problem.. Kind of promised that we'd revisit a lovely family guesthouse that we stayed in last year in Jodhpur. One of the guys who worked there took a shine to us (or my daughter who was 4 at the time) and I feel now that I've said we will see him again I have to go but it is quite far from MP. Any suggestions hot to get quickly from Delhi, Jodhpur to MP ... |

I just checked and it's hsmorchha@sancharnet.in
Odd that they're not replying to you. Perhaps the server is down; it happened regularly while I was there. I'm not sure about the travel arrangements but the quickest way would probably be Delhi-Jodhpur-Delhi-Jhansi by train. |

I was at Sheesh Mahal last August 2005 in room number 7 infront of Maharajah room for only 700 rs if I remember well. Try again to email because they normally reply. If you don't get a reply you can go there and also in town you have a pretty good guesthouse in front of the big temple: Sri Mahant Guesthouse with great views of the temple for 300 rs., there are other options too.
In my opinion the best place to visit in MP apart Orchha and Khajuraho are Mandu (really fantastic), Maheshwar, Omkareshwar, Sanchi and Chitrakoot on the border with Uttar Pradesh. All the best Jorge |

I stayed at the Mahant Guest House too for four days and it was a nice small clean place and I enjoyed my stay in Orchha a lot. Would love to go back someday maybe for a view from the Sheesh Mahal room too!!!
Cheers, Aadil. |

Thanks everyone. I have emailed again and again over last month and still no reply - so frustrating....Maybe I will write. If I get there and no room I'll just go elsewhere. I'm after the budget option...

From reading here among other things I think it's not that uncommon to find emailing to Indian hotels unsuccessful, they may just not be checking or suffering from web problems or so indeed. You got a phone number above right? Calling up is a good idea. <*Crack fizzle pop* "Hello ma'am yes please?">

Hi Desertlover, I am planning for orchha pretty soon. It may be either in Dec-Jan or Jan-Feb. I am living quite close to the place (though never been there) so I can easily change my plan. It is also quite possible that if I like the place (as i hope) I will revisit in Jan-Feb. So far as your worry regarding the place is concerned, can I help you? I shall be calling a few places in this / next week and if you want I can reply you back too.

I just came back from Orchha yday and its a beautiful place with picturised setting....my only complaint, the whole town smells like shit hole atleast near the river (bridge)
i liked orcha more than khajuraho cuz of its dramatic setting and some excellent food..... we stayed at Ganpati guest house and it was a nice clean place, u can try that.........the owner is quite a nice person........and people are friendly all across the town.......... will post the pics by this weekend....till then a panoramic view of chatris across the betwa river (sun set time) |

Spent one night in maharaja suite last november, it's been great!!!
Around one month before arriving I wrote an e-mail at hsmorcha@sancharnet.in and they promptly reply (it took not more than 2 days). Only one complain: when I checked out the credit card machine did not work, and I had to pay cash using laal the cash I had for 20 days!!!! try again, it is worth of!!! See the picture of suite! http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...0/ppuser/13644 http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...0/ppuser/13644 |
