Khajuraho in July--Too Hot/Wet?
I am considering visiting Khajuraho in July, and was wondering if the heat/monsoon would be too unbearable to spend a few days there....although i suppose it's all relative. I guess it's the heat factor that i am primarily concerned about. It may be nice with less tourists around...? Thanks!

Hi Sweetie,
I visited Khajuraho in last October (2006). It was hot. The locals told me that there was no rainfall in Khajuraho that year. If there is no rainfall this year , then July is going to be very hot. I would request you to take time and visit the temples in the morning and evenings only, and stay the mid-day in the hotel. Visit Eastern Group in the morning and Southern Group in the evening. The next day, visit Western Group , which is the biggest group and will be nearer to your hotel, in the morning and in the evening. Wish you a happy journey. Bhaswaran ![]() |

I was there last May, early May, just a little break from a six month (Feb - Aug) stay in Varanasi. Some pre-monsoon clouds had started to blow across the sky, and around Khajuraho I could see small isolated thundrstorms. Temps were hot already, low 30's C (I come from a ski town in Idaho, @ 6000 feet, the only 30's I see are minus 30's), though not quite as bad as it got (at least in Varanasi) in June, which was the hottest month (and before the big rains). You may start to see some rain in July. You're right though, crowds were down and I enjoyed walking through such an amazing site virtually by myself. I'd say go for it; at that time of year India is going to be hot pretty much everywhere, to have that site to yourself is worth it.

i feel if it rains, the temples would really be less crowded, and much more neat with all the dust washed away, atmosphere should really be very nice.
Have a nice trip...... |
