from Agra to Khajurahu?

Hi,

My friends and I are planning a trip from Agra to Khajurahu to Varanasi.

1. What is the best way to reach Khajurahu? I believe there's no train station in Khajurahu.

2. Can we train from Panna or Rewa to Varanasi?

thank you

Info, info, info....PLEASE.

I could have been a complete bastard and given you the info you requested, the info you'd need to travel today, but I just can't do that as I know it wouldn't be the complete answer, and that the info I'd left out would have been more use to you.

Probibly sad that this useless reply took longer to type than your post.

The only person who loses out by not giving details, is the person who asks the questions.

Excuse me. The thing is I just want get a general idea how to get to Khajurahu. Sometimes the first time traveller may not have all the info at hands and don't even know what to ask or where to begin. Especially when you are visitng a third world country, you don't even know what to expect.

Where to begin is getting a guidebook to India. And then asking on this forum if anything is still unclear or if you need further details.

Even if you don't have a guidebook, you could probably find out how to get to Khajurahu with less than a minute of research on the internet.

Too many people seem to want others to provide them with information on a plate rather than do a little work themselves.

OK, first an apology, I had a really crap day at work and shouldn't take it out on strangers, so I'm sorry for that.

Normally I just ignore questions that don't contain enough detail to offer a useful reply, even when I have some useful info to add.

Occasionally I give a sarcastic reply, then delete it almost immediately.

The very worst of me is rarely seen, when I give a long reply, then the person comes back and gives a bit of info that renders the whole reply a complete waste of time, and that is what was easily possible with this thread.

So, back to the questions.

There is a train station in Khajuraho, and it will be open to customers in less than a month.

laugh my ass off. but opinions differ on this tho. according to some, long camel rides do the ass permanent damage. people literally get humped. goodluck OP with your camel ride to khajuraho.

On a more serious note.

Details would have included....date of travel (asp. with the new train starting soon), daytime or overnight travel, and a lot more info about getting to Varanasi, when, how and other things.

The closest train station to Khajuraho at the moment is Mahoba, but Agra to Mahoba doesn't really work timewise.

So a train from Agra to Jhansi (Make sure it's not a train that starts from a long way away), then a bus to Khajuraho (or a visit to Orchha first).

Trains from Rewa first go to Satna (or is it Katni?) from a branchline, there are daytime and overnight trains from Satna (or Katni) to Varanasi, but if the map in my head is correct, I'm sure there is a better way to Varanasi. (I'll have a look later)

Panna, I'll have to look at my maps and timetables when I get home.

Thank you for your hardwork . May friends and I appreciated. I have called the local india tourist office in my area , they can't even provide the above information let alone the guide book will give me all the details. Again, don't even name youself a bastard but you did act like one when you are crappy Take it easy and your apology accepted.

I believe this forum is to help, share or volunteer any helpful tips and info for anyone who wants to visit India. We have plenty guide books alringht, and I have come across some of the informations in the guide books are not current anymore. When we checked the train schedule on line, it's just confused the hell out of us. I think someone needs to write up a train guide book for India. Or may be the train system is so complicated, no one has ever tried. Sometimes, we- the first timer to India get frustrated when we keep hititng the wall. Or have you forgotten how frustrated you were when you first planned your trip to India. Or may be not, I don't know.

In fact, if you use the SEARCH function here, you will find that Stephen Ber has written several long essays about train booking and train travel in India.

Panna and Rewa are both close to Satna, I think Penna is about 50-60kms (by bus) and Rewa about 40kms.(by bus or train).

My mind got working a little and I found the following: -

Agra Cant-Satna and Satna-Agra Cant both have well timed overnight trains connecting them.

There is an overnight train from Mahoba to Agra, though the departure time is poor (Mahoba 01.17 Agra Cant 08.15)

You could also consider going the other way, Agra-Varanasi Jn-Satna (for Penna/Rewa), Khajuraho, Agra, or you could miss Agra and get a direct train from Delhi (21.35) to Mahoba (05.58), though this train only runs 3 days a week (and a part of this train will go on to Khajuraho in a month's time), you could then visit Agra after Varanasi.

But it all depends on where you plan to be before Agra and after Varanasi.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't an overnight bus between Agra and Khajuraho, but it would be a hell of a rough ride.

There is an overnight bus from Khajuraho to Varanasi, and I'm sure there will be a bus from Satna to Varanasi (that would pass through Rewa).

The alternatives are endless, that's why details are vital for a route that would suite you own personal requirements.

But no longer flights between these airports, even though the older guidebooks state that there are.

A good solution from Agra to Khajuraho is to take the Shatabdi express from Agra (morning) and go first to Jhansi and then a bus from Jhansi to Khajuraho. You should stop at Jhansi and go to Orccha, marvelous village .
