Youth Hostel - Connaught Place????
Hi everyone!!
I know this might be a bit of a long shot but just wondered if any of you seasoned india travellers out there could help...??? I'm travelling to Dehli in Sept from the UK and am looking for somewhere to stay on arrival. A freind of a friend of a friend of a friend (that kind of thing...!!) vaguely mentioned to me about a Youth Hostel in the Connaught Place area which is really fab, has a restaurant/eatery or whatever and a swimmingpool to boot...it just sounded the ideal place to recover from flights etc and get used to the place in the first couple of days but i cant seem to find anything which resembles it on the web...maybe it is too good to be true...!!! If any of you people know of such a place/name etc i'd be eternally grateful... rubytuesday x |

Your friend may have been talking about the YMCA Tourist Hotel if it still exists. Near the Regal Cinema on Jai Singh Road, opposite the Jantar Mantar. Hot + cold water, gardens, pool, lounge + restaurant with varied cuisine. Open 24 hrs, credit cards accepted. All this from the 1993 Lonely Planet guide, 210 Rs. single/shared bath - 650 double/aircon/attached bath + 10 Rs. membership at the time (far from cheap mind you!), I imagine quite a bit more now. It seems there used to be two other good and much cheaper YWCA's at the time, all three of them close to Connaught Place and all of which took in both sexes.
Hopefully others can tell you if this is the place you're looking for and if it's still around.

*I see now there's a discrepancy between hostel/hotel. Could be one of those cases of someone having a go at someone else's fame -- mind your step. Site looks convincing enough + prices realistic enough though, + the addresses seem to match. |
