Kolkata - "The Palace Hotel". Palace in name only basic but clean and friendly. Run by Sikhs, off one of the side streets in Sudder St.
Cheers Zoltan

Many thanks Zoltan. Will look it up. Do you know how much per night? I need to budget the best I can as I will be in India for 3 months.
Nick H, thanks for the concern, haha. ![]() |

Have you looked at the reviews in our Hotel section? There are quite a few for Varanasi, I believe.

I stayed at the Shanti in Varanasi by the burning ghats. Very cheap with a great view from the roof. I guess now theres a restaurant on the roof. Before there wasn't. It was a good budget option for the money.

I recommend the Broadway in Kolkata. Friendly hotel. Very good staff. Lively bar if you fancy a beer. Right oppsite Chandni Chowk metro station too.
http://business.vsnl.com/broadway/ I like the Bellevue in Darjeeling too: http://www.darjeeling-bellevuehotel.com/hotel.html Haven't been to Varanasi for 10 years, so hopelessly out of date on that part - although the Shanti Guest House used to be good along with the Trimuti Guest House. The Trimuti has some rooms with balconies if you decide to engage in combat with the monkeys. ![]() Edit - Bellevue isn't actually that cheap! |
