Vizag

Anyone done a day trip from Vizag? I know there are caves somewhere .. are they worth it? We are going to visit my husbands family and he knows only a little bit of the area (its been a long long time since he has lived there). The last time we went we travelled WAY too much and were too tired to do anything. This time we are going to stay in the general area and just do day trips if any are worth it. We will probably stay overnight in Vizag since his parents live about 40 - 50 miles away.

A popular day trip is.....

A morning train from Vizag along the scenic route to Araku Valley, the daytime spent in the valley and seeing the Borra Caves, then a bus (poor train times) back to Vizag.

The train departs Vizag at 07:45 I think and has the old First Class (not air con) and ordinary 2nd class.

I think most travel agents offer this tour.

A useful website is....

Do the Rail+Road package offered by AP Tourism. This would be best and would cover a delightful journey up to the hills, the Araku valley, view some tribal settlements, down to the Borra caves and back to Vizag city.

I do not think Arsikere is anywhere near Vizag.

You can also do a weekend stay at a place called Tyda Jungle Bells Camp. Sort of "off the trail" and will be in the lap of nature.

Other day trips could be to places like Annavaram, Bhimili beach.

www.aptourism.com would give you some good information.
