I am looking for a recomendation for a nice room in a guest house in Varanasi overlooking the Ganges. Thanks

Hi eranil

Check out the Leela Paying Guest House.

I 've done a profile for it in the hotels section. The rooms are fairly basic, but have clean modern h&c bathrooms, balconies with views over the Ganges. There is backup power during the daily power cuts, internet service and a rooftop restaurant. Rooms are Rs 200/300, plus there's one huge room which sleeps four with its own huge balcony for Rs 700 which would be ideal for a group.

Admittedly I didn't stay here as I didn't check it out until my last day, but it looked like unbeatable value for money.

It's a bit tricky to find (like most places in the old city) however it's almost next door to the much more expensive Shiva Ganges View Hotel.
