Trouble getting replies from Delhi hotels
Hi all,
What's up with the nice hotels in Delhi? I've emailed 4 or 5 of them with a couple of questions and have gotten no replies. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nothing! Are they just being snobby? Should I try the medium priced hotels instead? I'll be arriving late at night with my 70-year-old mom and thought we should stay at a more upscale hotel, but maybe we need to set our sights lower to get a response. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

indian hotels are not as sharp with emails as one would often hope for! i would advise you to try calling them. That's exactly what i have just done and, with the help of skype, it only cost me 30 cents!good luck
Hi Gipsy64,
They will finally answer you, normally people in India are not in a hurry as we are.

Suggestion for Delhi
Hi Gypsy
Not sure if this is your style but I have booked at the Bajaj Indian Homestay .http://www.bajajindianhomestay.com/ and have been very happy with their response time.
I also arrive in the wee small hours and they offer complimentary pick up at the airport. I have been corresponding back and forth over train tickets which I had arranged to have sent to the hotel. (short rest for applause as anyone who has booked tickets over the internet will appreciate just what I had to go through to get them) I think it is in a reasonable area but I will only be there for two days to recover from the flight, take a city tour and depart for Varanasi. Hope this helps, I am having my own little accommodation nightmare at the moment but at least I am pretty sure I will be happy with my Delhi choice. Sue

Suew: That looks like a great place. If you get a chance can you let us know how your stay worked out? It would be good to know of another great guesthouse to relax upon arrival. We stayed at the Master Paying Guesthouse and loved it but it is frequently booked months in advance. Another option would be great. Happy travels,
Casey

I sent an email to Ajay Guest House (low budget hotel) about two weeks ago and haven't heard back, I had forgotten about Indian Time, it makes sense now, I probably hear back from them in a months time if I'm lucky, though that would be unlucky as I'm leaving the county 9/10.

Suew,
I'd also like to hear bout this one, MPG told me 11month before my trip that I could only book five months before, but when I emailed on supposedly the first day of booking they already only had one of the two days we need available. I really want to stay there but it's our last two days in India and don't think I can be bothered to stay at two hotels. they are going to let me know if the 2nd night becomes available, but if not I was thinking of Bajaj or Delhi Guest House in Friends' Colony as alternatives
Thanks, I'll try

Hi Suew,
I did look at their web site a couple of weeks ago and will consider contacting them too. It looked like a nice place. Thanks.

I tried twice to make a reservation using a form on Hotel Ajanta's (Delhi) website, probably Aug. 22. After a few days of waiting, I tried again, using another form. Then, the day before yesterday, I finally saw their e-mail address and wrote to them. Today, I received a confirmation, marked "Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2006" and including a copy of the info I sent as my first effort. I immediately mailed to thank them and that I would be happy to meet them again (last = first time 3 years ago). In a few hours, they reconfirmed! I wonder where their first mail was sleeping in those three weeks in between...

Just to let you know I emailed Hotel Namaska in Delhi yesterday and they sent an immediate reply to let me know what I had asked. Then today I got a confirmation email letting me know that the hotel had been booked, that's what I call service.

no, they don't need to waste their time. why you may ask? you may not show up, simply. They don't have credit card facilities, simply.
i suggest you not fret so much. you'll be in India soon, do as in India. Finding a room today - tommorow -will always be the same... go and look, see and then make up your mind.
that's the way it goes!!!
