Stay at Golden Temple.
Hi all,
I am new to IMhttp://www.indiamike.com/india/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=7 7# Roll Eyes (Sarcastic). I like to make a trip to Amritsar with family (wife &son). I was told that Golden Temple has accomadation which is quite inexpensive, well furnished and strategically located. I went to the SGPC website but I could not do it online as it was not working. I would be happy to receive feedback from anyone of the IM's who has stayed over there on these aspects:reservation process (normally how many days in advance we need to book), quality of accomadation. I would prefer to stay there & donate the money to the golden temple rather than stay in a hotel (I can withstand to some extent of inconvenience). I was also told that one can stay upto 3 days at a time (I intend to stay for 2-3 days). Any updates on good food joints is most welcome -Vegetarian- I like regional cuisine (I am basically from South India) - Thanks

In all Gurudwaras especially the big and historic ones, there are number of rooms for pilgrims (no differenciation of caste or religion). You can go there and book the rooms. I dont think any Gurudwara does online booking, if it is lean period you can get a double room very easily and if its some religious festival then you wont be able to get a room for 2 or 3 so easily but will get place in dormitories. here's something about it -
SRI GURU RAM DAS NIWAS The Niwas is a free hostel for the pilgrims maintained by the Temple authorities. It has been built by the Gurdwara Committee. It has 228 rooms and 18 big halls. Unlike the ordinary 'Daramsalas' the Niwas supplies the facilities of free beddings, cots, lights and fans etc. to the lodgers. A lodger is not generally allowed to stay here for more than three days at a time. The doors of the hostels are open to all. The lodgers however must not do anything repugnant to the teachings of Sikhism. Just go and book it when you reach there |
