I am considering staying at the Sitara Niwas Hotel in Amritsar. Has anyone stayed there or know of this hotel? it seems a good budget hotel with rooms at rs800 and wi-fi, plus it is close, walking distance, to the Golden Temple.

No one has used this hotel? It has some positive attributes, I'd love to learn more about it.

Nothing useful to add really, just a question.....

Are you a smoker?

If so, reconsider staying close to the Golden Temple, there is a complete ban on smoking within about half a mile (or maybe more) of the Golden Temple, no smoking in hotels, no sneaking round the back of the hotel, even in a dark alley, the locals wont accept it at all.

I decided not to stay in the Golden Temple just so I could smoke, so I was a little pee'd off, though I did understand.

Ask their laundry charges before handing over any clothes, I didn't and a hotel (can't remember the name) tried to charge me Rs40 per item (inc. single socks), I tried to negotiate, but they wouldn't budge, in the end I put down a third of their asking price, picked up my clothes and told them to call the police if they wanted more, they didn't.
.

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

No, I'm not a smoker. But thanks for the heads up Steven. I used to do 3 to 4 packs a day. They would have hated me.

I better do my own laundry!
