Raheem's Residency?

I'm scheduled to stay at Raheem's Residency in Alleppey in June. I've searched the IM site and don't see any mention of it. Does anyone have any experience with this hotel?

Looks lovely. I'd rather be on the backwaters side of Allepey: my one visit to the beach didn't inspire me to make another!

But, staying in such a nice place would probably more than compensate

I hope so!

I thought it looked nice on the website and I really liked that they hold writers' retreats. I think if I like it I may try to attend one.

I'll be in the backwaters too, Nick, but wanted a little beach time in. This will be my first visit to the south, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the review link!

One more question...

Since I've not been to a beach in India I'm not sure if I should get my hopes up for some relaxing hours lying around in the sand. I don't exactly blend (long red har, pale skin, blue eyes, a and pretty curvy) and even though I've always worn loose, modest clothing (ankle length pants and button up shirts with 3/4 length sleeves) I still have come up against what a lot of women find in eastern countries - a lot of unwanted attention (although thankfully no touching!). I will be traveling with a friend from Karnataka this time and expect that his presence will deter all but the boldest souls, but still should I forget the beach and just hang out by the pool instead?

When you see the beach in Aleppey, you probably do not want to spend any time on it anyway.
Go somewhere else if you are looking for a nice beach.

For lying around ourtside ...I was going to say sunbathing, but that isn't really recommended in Keralan sunshine... I would stick to the hotel poolside, where you will be uninterupted and unhassled except by the waiter bringing your cold drink. Mmmm; relaxation, nice.

Allepey beach is a stretch of dirty sand; it didn't look appealing to sit on. But the sea is there, of course, and that's always worth a visit.
