Quotation from hotel

I sent booking requests for my Nov trip to several hotels (in Delhi, Jaipur and Udaipur). Most hotels replied with higher rate (about Rs500-600) than what I saw from other travellers' blog/forum. I don't know how it works:

When I arrive, should I go to see the room first and then negotiate another price or stick with price quoted by hotel?

If the hotel offers free pickup from train station, can I go to another hotel if the room is not ok? How about the autorickshaw fee?

May be the forums you had seen would be budget hotels.. And the hotels which have e-mail and you are contacting should not be budget hotels..

1. You can go and verify the hotels and negotiate. But for that you cannot pre-book..

2. If the hotel offers free pickup, you are bound to stay in the hotel only - as the pickup is complimentary to your stay. You cannot backout - atleast you need to spend a day or pay for a day (depending on the hotel rules)

I refer to the same hotels. The rate I saw from others travellers was only 2008 or early 2009. Shouldn't increase that much.

You mentioned rate hikes of Rs500-600 but didn't mention what the original rates were so that percentage increases can be calculated - that is if the original rates were around Rs5000 then price hike of Rs500-600 is understandable but if the original rates were around Rs1000 then a hike of about 50% is indicated!

In India, thanks to growing prosperity, tourism and inflation, annual price hikes of 10-20% are nothing unusual.

Moreover, some hotels have seasonal rates and prices can vary throughout the year.

Without knowing the details I think you have been quoted correct prices.
