Paying for hotel

Hello, I am trying to pay for a hotel on my upcoming trip to India. The hotel has no online booking system and has asked me to send them copies of both sides of my credit card along with a signed confirmation letter authorizing them to debit my account. This letter should contain my credit card number and expiry date.

Is this right? I was shocked initially to find that many hotels in India do not have online booking systems and had to-do a bank transfer to arrange for one but this seems a little unsafe.

At least I suppose if I book with my card and fraud does happen I'm protected by my card company.

Doesn't sound good at all, unfortunately I have no experience of such a transaction, but I would steer clear for sure!

I don't think, parting with your Credit Card info is a good thing to do !

You ask them about their Bank Account No. and their Branch's IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) and then you can transfer money online.

Don’t even think about it. Too many risks even if the hotel people are genuine.

Some hotels may be legitimate, However why would you want to take such a risk. They could always charge the card latter it may be hard to prove that its a CC Fraud and your Fraud Protection may not be valid in in some of those circumstances.

As delhiwala suggested why don't you ask for the IFSC code of NEFT code and transfer the Money instead. Or ask if they support Wire-transfer or other methods.
