Mide range hotels, cheaper to book direct or through agent ?
On our upcoming tour of Nth India we have found a lot of nice looking mid range places to stay (many recommended from this forum), however is it cheaper to book direct or through an agent who is packaging up some of the trip for us. Often agents get a much cheaper rate, it is just a matter of is some of this passed on to us ?

Agents can get easily a cheaper price as anybody calling directly but their comission wil be around 35%. The best way in my opinion is to call the hotel and make the reservation. Probably they´ll talk to you about prices, etc but this can be arranged on the spot. Sometimes the hotels have more or less fixed prices and it makes no sense to bargain few rupees.
