Pretty much what it says for the subject... going on the 1/1/06 for only four days... single traveller, want to relax and have fun before heading back to the rat pack.

glad you wish to visit Mahabalipuram, it is really nice place with pleasant atmosphere because there are many long stayers.
What kind of budget you have? Most budget places like Lakshmi hotel & cottages are very basic (this place is notorious for paying commission so if you was brought in by driver bargain hard or look at other hotels). From budget places I would recommend Siva Guest House next door, very plain Uma Lodge and Sri Urugar on Otavadi St (on the way to Lakshmi). Everywhere price should be no more than 250-300 Rs, if you stay longer - bargain. Sea Breeze at the end of this cross street has plain rooms for 1000 Rs, on beach, right behind Lakshmi there is new hotel Sea Shore restaurant with decent rooms for 700-800 Rs. And of course opulent 5 star Temple Bay is waiting visitors, so I would not recommend to go in from street - I have seen their advertisement with promotional half rates through travel agents in Chennai.
