low budget hotels
hello everyone outthere. i have an older lonely planet book<10 years> that talk of drug raids and police searches of budget accomadations!
does this still happen and anyone have experiences to share? also for 300 rupees can a lone backpacker get a clean/safe room between bombay to southern coast of india?

Outside of Mumbai (which is very expensive) you can find good, clean and cheap accomodation for 150-/Rs or less for a single. In many places I found ~100-/Rs, and the cheapest I'd ever stayed was a mere 30-/Rs a night (near Gokarna, on a beach).
Even in more expensive cities of the south (like Bangalore, Mysore and Fort Cochin) it was rare to go over 150. I've never heard of drug raids or police searches of your hotel room, and have never experienced them myself. |

in smaller cities it s not a problem to find very cheap but very nice and clean rooms at around 50 ruppes up to 100 ruppes
the cheapest room I had was 17.5 rupees a double,so that was just 35,and the room was reallly large having a balcony of 15 square meters! I also never had the experience of drug raids in India, also I never had any problems with police in India. Mostly they are quite helpfull and nice.A bit of "admiring" them helps a lot ![]() In giving them some baksheesch to accelerate things you shoud be carefull. This is a science itself. |

Budget Hotels in India
Hi, live in India (bangalore) right now and have had the same problem when i travel. Hardly any good web resources for guesthouse listings etc. Thinking about starting a kind of web site with these kind of listing. Seems like everytime i need info on accodomdation in India, i have to rely on message boards...think this is a good idea?

Bad News.....the hotel section will be empty at first and will depend on the full force of our members and hotel owners on the site to add listings. I played around with the test version today and it's looking pretty good so far. Mike |
