Lodgings & Sightseeing at Munnar, Kerala
My wife and I will be in Munnar during December this year. Could someone suggest decent lodging places there - something in the Rs 300-500 range with private bathrooms?
We both are nature lovers. So any suggestions on beautiful places in and around Munnar will be welcome. Thanks |

Westend Cottage
I was in Munnar a couple of months ago and stayed at Westend Cottage which is just up from the market in Munnar - easy walking from the bus stand. It's a homestay so the rooms are all in the family house. There are 3 rooms with TV and attached bath for about Rs 400 (I think!). The rooms are simple but very clean.
The guy who owns the place is very friendly and helpful. He'll give you a map with lots of walks and sights marked, along with restaurants etc. He can also give advice on how to get around out of town wothout using rickshaws - if your budget is a little tight. The telephone (according to his card) is: 91 4865 230954 or mobile 09446130036. The only downpoint is that because this place is right in town there are no views. Hope this helps. |

i went there few years back so can't help you with hotels.
but places to visit. walk from munnar to letchmi estate. you can get bicycles also and it would be better. get a open off road vehicle, you will get lots of them at bus stop. in india every one calls them JEEP coz zeep was the first and origional manufacturer of there vehicles. ask the driver to take you down few km on cochin road. on the left side, you will see a board that says "water fall 3 km". go doen that road and see the water fall. ask the locals there first if there is any water in the waterfall of not. i went there during monsoon. drive down upto teni. you will see lot of good places. walking in tea gardens can also be considered. lockhard gap is a good place on devikulam road. and drive upto chinnar. visit rajmala national park. |

Was in Munnar last December & stayed at Green View (?Holiday)Inn, Old Munnar. I think I got their contact details from LP (sorry...don't have one now, so I'll rely on my journal for contact details): ph.04865 230940
email to: greenview_munnar@ sify.com It's located opposite a bus stop (both local & long-distance) & at the bottom of its long driveway is an autorickshaw stand beside a temple. A little out of town (so not so noisy), but near the KTDC Tourist Office. I paid 400rps for a room on my own (probably a double costs the same). I found the staff extremely helpful & friendly, especially the gorgeous Deepak. My room was large, clean, comfortable, with bathroom, TV, & views. You can use their internet when they're not using it, for a cheap price. They can also arrange transport to & from Mysore, Kochi etc & are helpful with bus routes & timings. |
