| Lodging in New Delhi in or near Connaught PL ALSO Beating Retreat Hello I am new at this site and this is my first post. I have been researching some options for my trip to india. I am not going to India until January 2006, but I would like to make all the arrangements and put all this to rest. I am looking for a hotel around the Connaught Place Area that is $100 or less. I looking for a nice hotel, or what ever is the more bang for my buck. Any suggestions? I have been thinking about Hotel Ashok, I know it's not no where near connaught Place, but it looks like that it's a really nice hotel and I can get it for around $90-100. Any information that you can get me would be great. I will be there around the republic day. I have heard some good things about the beating retreat. Any idea how can one go about attending that? do you need tix etc?? Thanks in advance. Last edited by The Chosen One; Jul 27th, 2005 at 13:08.. |

| Hi and welcome to Indiamike. There are quite a few hotel recommendations in our Hotel Listings section, but since you are interested in staying in a nice place around the CP area, I'll mention a place that I haven't stayed in personally, but would check out if I was in your budget range. The Hotel Marina is an older hotel located in one of the Connaught Place rings: I know of it as I visited some guests there on my first visit to Delhi in 1969; we had afternoon tea served in the sitting room of their suite. It was one of those character-laden places with overhead fans, well-worn oriental carpets, and discrete uniformed help and, at that time, had probably seen better days as it was only a notch or two up in price from more basic establishments. I always thought I'd return and stayt there some day, but never have. According to information I see on the web, it has been remodelled, of course, and is now considered a 4 star establishment. I don't see a web page for the hotel itself, but the following google link brings up a number of pages giving more information on how things look these days (prices seem to vary by which booking site you check, but should definitely be under $100, at least for standard room) Perhaps someone who has actually stayed at the Marina recently can give a more realistic http://www.google.com/search?client=...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 |

I had no idea that it was a government run hotel. Is that bad? sorry I am not really familiar with it. I really wanna book intercontinental in CP, but at $200 a night it's kinda steep. | |

| Heya ... I stayed at Hans Plaza in 2000/2001 and the hotel was pretty good at the time. The breakfast and restuarant place is at the top with some stunning views of the city. Rooms are quite acceptable and what I would class as typical "Holiday-Inn" type category. The hotel is used by the business community to host conferences and such so standards are quite acceptable. |
