Lakshadweep
Lakshadweep
Anyone now about an affordable place to stay at the Lakshadweep Islands?
Any rates at all? I think it's really hard to find hotels in India showing the rates on the net.

No cheap accomodation in the Islands. Bangaram Island is a Casino Group Resort, very expensive. Agatti , the airstrip Island has a few cottages, quite expensive. Other places to stay are governed by SPORTS.
See the web site http://www.lakshadweeptourism.com/ for further help.

I know this is an old thread but I would rather tag onto this than start a new one on the same subject.
Is it possible to just turn up and see what you can find? Like a beach hut? or should you have something booked?

Hi Ali-Monbeam,
As far as I know, it can not be done. Because even Indian ctizens who are not from Lakshadweep need a permit (or invitation from islanders?) to make a journey to the islands. And plus most of the islands are very small with not many commercial establishments like restaurents, hotels etc. When I made the trip in 2010 then even the private resorts were supposedly closed. May be someone can provide upodated info about them.
Tourism is under the ambits of govt owned SPORTS and highly regulated. Also if you are not an Indian citizen then you have access only to chosen islands. Please search the forum and I am sure it would have been discussed earlier. Even alcohol is banned except for Bangaram island. Best bet would be to approach SPORTS and book. The islands are beautiful, unspoilt by mass toruism and definetly worth a visit.
