Kolkata Accom RS200 approx

Hi all, I am heading to Kolkata tomorrow and would like recommendations on places to stay for approx RS200-250. I am travelling by myself.

Also does anyone know of a yoga place that I can go to for lessons, I've just done a few in Varanasi and would like to continue doing classes whilst I am travelling around if possible.

Thanks

Thumbs up Welcome

Hi imhere,
Welcome to Kolkata

What about the options available on Sudder street / Airport area? I am not sure about the amount but there are some economical hotels in those areas.
There is a long thread regarding Calcutta hotels….
Hotels in Calcutta I think this one may help you.

Hi Somnath, thanks I was thinking Sudder St just wanted to check if anyone had a particular place they stayed at that they enjoyed and was within my price range.

I had checked the thread you attached but I think the only one suggested really was Modern Lodge by wonderwomanusa so I was going to check that out first.

Any hints of must sees, I would love to see some galleries etc whilst in Kolkata. Some local artists stuff really. I've got the LP and I ill go through that on the way and plan a bit but if you know of anything worth seeing but not in the guide that would be much appreciated.

Thanks am really looking forward to getting there and checking the place out

Wink youarethere

Hi,
So you were busy with last minute packing?

Regarding galleries and works of local artists, so far I am able to collect :

1. Academy of Fine Arts:
A unique exhibition of stitches will be inaugurated at Academy’s New South Gallery today. Mr. Biswajit Mukherjee is the artist and this exhibition will continue till 25th.

Two other exhibitions are going on here painting of Asit Mondal and Chandranath Dey but tomorrow is the last day.

2. CIMA art gallery: http://www.cimaartindia.com/NewCima/Artists.html

3. Chitrakut Art Gallery: (Phone – 2475 2275, 2476 5812); 3 – 8 pm. till 20th .
“Darkness and Light”, paintings by Mr. Kishore Chattopadhyay.

Iamhere, it will be better if you share your list with programs (timings and all) so that practical addition / alteration is possible. Actually I don’t have any clue how much time you are going to spend in Kolkata. Ramkrishna Mission at Belur Math is a spot, often neglected due to time constraint but I’ll request you not to miss. If you can afford one day outing, please try ISKON temple Mayapur. http://userpages.umbc.edu/~achatt1/Calcutta/marbel.html I am not sure if it is there in LP.

Waiting to here from you.
Happy journey,

- Somnath

Hi Somnath

I'm not sure how long I am spending here, I thought I would wait and get here and have a look around to decide. I figure approx 4 days though, maybe a little more depends where I decide to go next really, I think I am heading to Mumbai with stops on the way. I know I sound vague but I am just going with the flow at the moment.

Thanks for the information I will try and get to one if not all.

Thumbs up Hi

Hmmmmm…… then it is better not to think about Mayapur. But tomorrow morning you can visit Belur Math. There is bus service from esplanade to Belur.
And http://userpages.umbc.edu/~achatt1/Calcutta/marbel.html is not far away, can be done today itself.

Best of luck.
