Karol Bagh
Karol Bagh
Hi there...
Any advice on the Karol Bargh area in Delhi. I'll be putting up there for 3 days and I've recently heard that its quite a filthy place. Have already put a booking fee so I can't pull out. But the idea of the area being extremely filthy is a put off. Any idea if this is true? Also, filth aside, is it a rather dangerous place to be in? I don't mean to associate physcal filth with crime, and I admit it's a natural shortcoming on my part. But info on this concern will be much appreciated.
Thanks heaps!

We also stayed there 2 years ago and it's definitely no worse than other parts of Delhi. And having the metro nearby is fantastic!
It isn't unsafe--I actually found it less of a hassle than many other parts of Delhi.
India is dirty in most places. No way to avoid it unless you go to 5 star hotels and don't leave them!!

My selected India photos http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...r/7030/cat/500 I have to agree with everyone on his thread - it's not that bad. Also, there is some good shopping in that area - at least from what I remember.
Have fun and let us know how the hotel was! I'm thinking of staying there a night or two before I leave for Chennai.

I've stayed, over the years, quite a lot in Karol Bagh, and enjoyed it. It's handy for good restaurants, great if you are near the Metro Station end, and shopping is good too. Can get a bit crowded, but what is nicer for shopping is Rajouri Garden, and this is only a few stops along the Metro line - it has all that Karol Bagh has, and is quieter.
Every cloud has a silver lining!
Karol Bagh is a hundred times better than PAHARGANJ ( the most popular with tourists ).
Karol Bagh is a residential area of Delhi with crowded markets.
I would advise you to stay near Karol Bagh ( walking distance ), Rajinder Nagar. There is a hotel called - RUDRA CASTLE.
I stayed here for 2 nights a few months back. At around $ 30.00 a night I felt it was good. A lot of tourists here. It's around 5 - 7 minutes walk from the Karol Bagh Metro Station. It's near the Red Light in front of the Gurudwara ( Ahead of Gangaram Hospital ).
And do not worry. The place is quite safe till 11 pm in the night. After that every place gets a bit dicey.

If I am reading things correctly, you're a Singapore resident and accustomed to the Singapore level of cleanliness (no disrespect intended either).
India is nothing like Singapore and, it may do you good to work outside of your comfort zone and see /experience another view of the world.
I'm staying there this time around (instead of Pahar Ganj), so for me, it will be an interesting time.
Cheers

I booked through http://www.hostelworld.com for Holiday Royal Holidays in Karol Bagh. For one night for twin ensuite, it is $1546 rupees and includes airport pickup. The hotel has a very good rating with http://www.tripadvisor.
Sorry to disagree with "no dirtier than anywhere else in Delhi" bit.
First of all, it depends upon your reference point; Karol Bagh is indeed no dirtier than Pahar Ganj (and a bunch of other areas in Delhi), but there is more to Delhi than Pahar Ganj. Simply for the (seeming) air quality, I'd rather stay in South Delhi and avoid Karol Bagh altogether if I can.
Second, it depends upon your budget as well as what you value. At low budgets, your choices might well be limited to areas like this, dirty as they are. And, the hotels might well be better 'value' as hotels in better areas charge significantly simply for the location.

Metoo - that price sounds good if it includes the airport pick up as well. Let us know how the hotel is. My favourite ones (Swati DeLuxe and Good Palace) are now pricing themselves above this for a double - around 1800 rupees minimum, and a pick-up is about 400rupees extra.
