Fifty years ago it would have been difficult for an unmarried couple to book a shared room in many hotels in the UK.

The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

So the HRAI is a wing of the Taliban in India?
Who died and made a bloody Hotel Receptionist the queen (or king)?
And if you are bored of your wife, you could have her head cut off instead of having to pay alimony and child support and half of your assets and get a divorce.
But what has that got to do with two consenting unmarried adults getting a hotel room in Mumbai in 2012?

Yes, and 400 years ago, they were chopping people's heads off in the Tower of London too

I hope you don't require a hotel room just for holding hands and staring at your girlfriend's eyes. So go and check by yourself into the hotels - IM is not an escort agency, how unfortunate but its true!!

Different cultures have differing roots and move at different speeds. The fact that the query is regularly raised on IM suggests to me that the rate of cultural change in India is accelerating. saugata,
Did you have any useful advice to offer the OP?

What has Indian culture got to do with the Indian law?To the best of my knowledge, Indian law does not expressly or explicitly prohibit two consenting adults of legal age to procure a hotel room regardless of their marital status.
And even prostitution is legal in India.
So I am wondering why the Indian hotels are in the moral policing business.

So what exactly does a travel forum offer opinions on besides hotels? And may I point out your grossly erroneous assumption of the OP being an escort or someone trying to avail escort services (and even if they were to be...so what? They were not asking how to get an escort in India after all)

Looking at the responses I am getting I guess NO. So I think it is better to delete the post altogether if you also think so TD.What I expected personally from this forum is some really useful information related to travel and other dedicated threads like books, movies etc - but if there is no governance on what people are asking for, I should refrain myself from posting such comments in future.

Obviously there is a need for advice on the topic posted by the Original Poster in this thread. Otherwise we would not be seeing so many threads of this sort.
The day after the banning of a film in India for nudity (Girl With A Dragon Tattoo), and in the same week where Vikram Seth at the Kolkata Book Meet was criticized for holding a glass of wine in his hand, there is a vast cultural pothole in India regarding any divergence from the traditional family ethos re entertainment, alcohol and marital relations.

Well some people's travel realm extend beyond books and movies...into getting hotel rooms.
If someone were to ask if they can make out in public in Bangalore or can go topless in a Indian beach, it is still a relevant travel question.
That does not automatically warrant a 'IM is not a pornographic site' response.
