Indian travel agencies

Hi,
I know a lot of people on this site plan their own trips and in many ways I did. However, I didn't want to deal with finding a car at each place and buying our train tickets, etc. So, I booked many things with a travel agent called Culture Holidays. Has anyone ever heard of them? Should I expect that the quoted rate will go up once I get there? They seem legitimate and I was able to confirm at least one of the reservations they made for us. They want the balance paid in cash on arrival. Is that safe?
Thanks,
D

The two travel agencies I've dealt with in India both wanted cash upon arrival. Of course, from one, I'd only booked an airport pickup and hotel -- and the hotel was paid separately.

The other was a travel agent I got to know in Delhi, and I watched my friends deal with clients, who handed over large bundles of cash before leaving on their tours. It seemed to work well for them, and for the agent.

Never heard of Cultural Holidays, but then, I plan my own trips. Please, when you've returned, let us know how it went for you.

I used another travel agent when I went to India, and they had a similar setup. When you go to pickup your hotel reservations, or train tickets, or whatever, just make sure you get your vouchers before you hand over the cash. You can of course pay by credit card, too. If you do, though, make sure you check what bank rate they're using to convert.

Yes. You are feeling that you don't want to take risk, but neither does the travel agent!

As long as you get those vouchers it should be fine.
