Hyderabad: where should I stay (budget!) Thanks to this forum, I have a fairly good idea of where I would like to stay in just about every city we are visiting, and how much it is likely to cost me. Only a few left, one of which is Hyderabad, where we have two nights (unless we decide to spend one of them nearby -- are Nagajunakonda or Warangal worth detoring to see?) If anyone has any recommendations for cheap-but-not-too-nasty hotels or guest houses in Hyderabad ot these other two towns, I would be happy to hear them. Thanks!

Our friends Ron and Andrea stayed at the Saptaguri Deluxe (460-3601) on Nampally High Road; I think they paid around RS300 last winter. I did not see the hotel, so can't give you any more info than the Lonely Planet guide shows. I stayed at Hotel Harsha and left a review of it in the hotel section here on IndiaMike. It was very clean and comfortable, and the food in the attached veggie restaurant was quite good. It's a bit more expensive. Both of these are very close to Hyderabad Station -- as far away from Secunderabad Station as a daredevil ricksha driver can go! I had an absolutely hair-raising ride and loved every minute of it.

Thanks, wonderwoman, I always read and enjoy your posts, so I was grateful for these two tips (well, one new one, actually: I had already made note of your earlier review of the Harsha. I didn't quite get the joke about Secunderabad and the daredevil rikshaw driver; is there a good reason to get far away from Secunderabad?

>>I didn't quite get the joke about Secunderabad and the daredevil rikshaw driver; is there a good reason to get far away from Secunderabad?<< It wasn't a joke. Secunderabad is often where you arrive -- not all trains go to Hyderabad station -- so if you're staying there, which is kind of like staying "downtown" instead of the suburbs -- you have to cross this enormously crowded city. However, the Hyderabadis have built some spiffy flyovers that cut the transit time considerably -- and I had a driver who was in a big hurry. Sorry I didn't get his photo; I never expected a ride like that from a "little old Muslim guy" with a long beard and wearing a mosque cap! He was really great! If you've more curiosity about Secunderabad & Hyderabad, see your guidebook... WW-USA

hyderabad-secundarabad are what you call twin cities, with two centers. each have their own commercial areas, residential areas, hotels, etc etc. You wont miss hyderabad much if you stay in secunderabad, and vice versa. and nowadays it has become a continuous city, and you wont be able to clearly demarcate where one ends and the other starts. | |

Thanks, both of you, for that clarification. Wonderwoman, wouldn't a better way to decribe the people of Hyderabad be "Hyderabaddies" or maybe "Hyderabadmen"?
