Hi ekg one

I stayed at the Kankarwa Haveli in Udaipur - overlooking the lake - in November and really enjoyed it - good value traditional haveli with great views and wonderful staff. Here's the link to my entry under 'Hotel Listings"

Bentley's Hotel is not a very nice place to stay in if you are looking for budget accomodation there are much better places for similar prices. What is your hotel budget for Mumbai?

The Arya Niwas in Jaipur was one of the best values I experienced. Definately recommended!

Aadil -- my lodging budget for Mumbai is around Rs1600 a day (2 people). Can you tell me what's wrong with Bentley's? I just picked it out of a guidebook, so of course you never can tell... What would you suggest, instead? Thank you!

Hi,
If your budget can stretch to R1935 incl tax, I'd suggest a deluxe sea-front room at Shelley's Hotel on the waterfront at Colaba, just down the road from the Gateway to India. The place has a feel of the Raj, really reminiscent of the 'old days' - but with modern bathroom, cable TV, air-con and fridge. Friendly staff and very central. Rooms without a sea view are more reasonable. The balconies on each floor (available to all guests) are a great place to relax.

Hi there
I ve just come back from India and Arya Niwas was one of the nicest hotels I stayed at. Only faults: grumpy canteen staff and no booze licence.

No booze licence???

Re: Arya Niwas- truly no booze licence?

OMG, if it's true, we'll have to buy our Kingfisher downtown! Or keep our hipflask of Cointreau nearby so we can top up our lemonades! Darn frustrating when one can't get a cold beer, when one needs one! Oh well!

Well, it is not a very well known place compared to the prices and location. There are a lot of other places nearby that are pretty good and available at the prices that you ask for. Shelleys is a bit more expensive but then they have a lovely sea view from some of their rooms that charge more like Rs2200. I would recommend the Residency Hotel (www.residencyhotel.com) at Fort next to the Citibank Headoffice which is about Rs1600 for a double room with airconditioning and good service too. I know they are good as a lot of my friends usually stay there on their visits to Mumbai. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.
