There are plenty of nice hotels in Ooty - you shouldn't have a problem. I was researching for Footprint there a couple of years ago, and was impressed with the range available.

If you want something a little different, and have arrived by train, a cheap option is to stay in the Railway Retiring Rooms, which are old-worlde Raj-style, though have seen better days. What's different about them ? - well, I believe 100% that they are haunted !! By ghosts - yes that's right !! I was staying there one night - I was the only person in the building, apart from the night-watchman who slept on the stairs way down the corridor. In the middle of the night, I heard someone moving furniture next door, which surprised me as there had been no noise at all earlier, and I was positive no one else was staying that night. I poked my head into the corridor, and as before, the next door room was securely padlocked from the outside!! It only had one door, and the windows were barred. I later asked the night watchman about it, and he was positive that I was the only person in the building all night.

Readers: you can draw your own conclusions, but I know what I heard, and am not a person who normally sees or hears stuff like this.

Stay with the nuns at the YWCA.
You don't need to be a woman or catholic, and you can have your own cottage.

OOTY - Hotel Lakeview

We finally decided to stay @ Hotel Lakeview and checked-in on 18th June to Suite Cottage (Rs 800 + tax per night). The weather was really cold. Staff were very cooperative and the cottage was real good with nice view of the hills. But the problem was that the doors and windows are of glass and the cold was getting colder and colder as the night engulfed. The restaurant is too pricey and the food was good. If one needs to keep away from the cold, they have to shell out Rs 45 for the logs to the fire place.

It would be really good to stay in summer. But we really enjoyed our stay out there.
