Hotels in Mysore and Bangalore

Hi All, I am so appreciating responses I have got back from this forum! The last time I was in India there was so little information on the 'net - so this is great!

Any recommendations for hotels (my friend and I are 57 so we're kind of past the roughing it stage so a 3-4 star hotel is what we're looking for) in Mysore and Bangalore?

I'm so looking forward to coming back to India and it's great to find others who love it the way I do! (ok, not love all things Indian, especially the time I got caught TWICE - two days in a row, even though I watched really carefully the second time -in one of the tunnels under Connaught Circle with "birdshit" on my shoe. The second time that happened, and the kid came to clean, I have to admit I was none too pleased and yelled at him - the kid lighened up the situation tho - he responded "me no shit lady, me no shit"...

Stephanie

Can't help you with Bangalore since we were only changing trains there, but Mysore I can.

We stayed at the Hotel Siddharta, 73/1 Guest House Rd., Nazarabad, T522888. Nice place, 1100R per night double occp. Located within walking distance to the Palace, and shopping areas. Internet cafe right around the corner(out the doors to the right), great bakery next to the cafe, try the little peppery biscuits, they were awesome! If you go out the doors to the left and up the street on the right there is a great restaurant with a huge outdoor, underneath a tree dining, patio, good food, even better rum.....

With the room you get free breakfast, at the buffet or you can order room service and pay. The food was excellant. The service people were great, very attentive. When my girlfriend called to the desk to see if they sold cigarettes there, the response was "No, mamn, but we can send a boy"(out to get some). Shocked and giggling a bit, we thanked them kindly, then went out ourselves and found a shop. The thought of just "sending a boy" for everything we needed was the joke of the rest of the trip. "Oh, we're out of water, or TP or beer....can't we just send a boy?!?!" We still use this line when we get together at home to reminisce. Beware the doorbell on the room!! It scared the bejesus out of us when the bellboy used it the first time!

Ok, I strayed, sorry...no, really the place is very nice, 5 star-ish in my opinion.

Have a great time, wish I was there.......

P.S. don't get overcharged from the train station, they charged us 100R for a 20R ride!!!

I stayed at the Safina Hotel in Bangalore (Safina Plaza, Infantry Road, Bangalore). the room was very nice (carpet, Western toilet, hot water, soap and towels, TV, phone) and the location wasn't too bad.

But don't get meals from the Chinese restaurant -- it was terrible.

Mysore is a heritage City. But in a practical sense it is a huge village with all decent facilities for the tourists. This is an ideal hub to explore the nearby archeological and wildlife and other tourists spots (scattered anything from 15 km to 100km).It is a hassle free place with a moderate climate. Mysore is well connected by multiple routs.

Most of the hotels have the food, car booking, credit card facilities etc. Dussera is the festival season (with the highest tourist crowd though)

Some of the reputed and known hotels are listed. There are many other good hotels and cheap lodges available. Hotel room tariffs can vary anything from Rs5000 (5*) to Rs200 (a good cheap lodge). There is a local taxi queue just outside the KSRTC Bus station and one inside the Railway station.

Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel(5*) About 15 kms from Mysore airport (only small chartered flights land here or 160km from the Bangalore airport). 8 kms from Mysore railway station. Overlooking the Chamundi Hills. A very very quite and less crowded 5* in the country. This was one of the palaces of the erstwhile Mysore Maharaja (The present Maharaja is still living at the residential area of the main palace in the city). You can book the. Maharaja suit which was used by the Maharaja at this hotel for about 30000rs a day. The rs200 lunch on sun days is a feast .It's simply great.
