hotels in jaisalmer and jodhpur

Hi all!

I need your help -- AGAIN! I have searched this site and looked in the hotel listings, but I really need your advice on nice mid-range hotels in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. We are leaving in a month's time, and I am getting nervous. I don't think that booking hotels once we get there is an option, especially travelling with a somewhat unadventuresome family. Can you PLEASE provide me with suggestions for hotels in these 2 cities? (contact info would be nice too). . . . We are willing to pay up to $60-70 for a double room, and just want some place nice, clean and comfortable.

Any advice/suggestions you could provide would be HUGELY appreciated!

Thanks!

Lightbulb Hotel suggestion in Jodhpur

This is my first post as a new member, so hope to be of some help....

I must admit to having never been to India and my information is only based on some research I have been conducting regarding web-based search techniques. However, I feel I have learned more about India in the last few weeks than I ever did in Geography lessons at school!!!

Anyway, the hotel I have seen advertised is the Ajit Bhawan Hotel which is only 3kms from the airport and 2.5kms from the railway station. It appears to have good facilities, but as I have never actually stayed there myself I cannot give a personal recommendation.

If you follow the link below, it also shows details of other hotels in Jodhpur, but the reason I chose this one is that it appears to be bookable online and is priced at US$69 for a double room, which I believe is in your price range..

Let me know if you have any success - I would be very interested to hear.

Regards..

Darren

Jaisal Castle

I stayed in Jaisalmer at Jaisal Castle

http://www.access-rajasthan.com/jais...-jaisalmer.htm

but booking was thru an agency (Compass Tours)

The hotel is great, is within the castle. don't know the price since I got a full package with the agency (Rajasthan tour prepared for me, travelling alone).

however it doesn't hav aircon, just fan. Bathroom has no door, just a curtain. Furniture is a bit old, the bed was big but the matress was like a boat.

The entrances is a big door and I had to jump over cows lying in the front. It was a cool experience. My point is that it wasn't the best of hotels, but that makes me think it is not expensive. Location was the BEST.

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, Ajit Bhavan is completely booked . . . has anyone stayed at Devi Bhavan in Jodhpur? other suggestions?

As for Jaisalmer, we're still hunting . . . we were thinking of Fort Rajwada, but they don't seem to answer the phone or reply to emails. It seems that way for a lot of Jaisalmer hotels. We checked out the Taj property there -- also fully booked. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! Killa Bhawan was another suggestion, but shared bathrooms doesn't appeal to mother. Anyone else out there have suggestions? At this point, the other suggestion is to ditch Jaisalmer all together, but reading other posts tends to make me think twice about doing something so rash. . . .
