Riya,

In Jaipur, you can try the Raj Vilas, the ultimate luxury hotel!

But if you looking at old world charm, try the suites at Rambagh

OR

Stay where personal guests of the formers rulers stayed

The Maharajah Suite at the Raj Mahal AWESOME. Feel like royalty for a while as it is a small hotel and you will be pampered silly as these suites are not booked all the time!

I´ve stayed at both Intercontinental and The Park. World class standards. However, I enjoyed more The Park due to its location (Parliament St.) close to Connaught Place and in front of Jantar Mantar.

Riya,

Here is what I know:

The Park Delhi and Intercontinental Delhi

Very good hotels, confirm to international standards and are commonly used by Airlines also. But maybe you should consider the smaller PARK ROYAL. The feedback has been fantastic and Durjay – he is a member of this board – can get you a very special rate.

Rajvilas Jaipur

The ultimate in luxury hotels of Rajasthan. It is a new hotel and is designed to pamper you. Highly recommended if you want to splurge. But if you want character and history, the rooms I most prefer are at the Raj Mahal. But most of the rooms in this hotel are in the USD 50/- range so it does not have the exclusivity of Raj Vilas.

Taj Mahal Bombay

When I was in Mumbai – for eighteen years actually – this was the ultimate hotel, specially the old wing. Can’t be beat for location, service and sheer ambience

Leela Bombay

A very good hotel too but stay here only if you want a place near the Airport. You can see its lights as you land in Mumbai! It has a jogging trail!

Le Meridien Bombay and Leela Palace Goa

I have not seen these hotels so can offer no comments.

Hope it helps. Compared to the above, we have a humble place in Jaipur. But our welcome is always warm whether you come to stay or for a visit!!

Ajay,

Raj Mahal is now managed by the Family of HH Sawai Bhawani Singhji. The GM is the ex Principal of Mayo College.

If you also think this hotel needs a massive dose of investment, I couldn’t agree with you more. But I am a history freak and love places that have been part of the glory of our heritage. If I am not mistaken, the suites I have recommended are the same where the Queen and Mrs. Kennedy (when she was Mrs. Kennedy, the First Lady) stayed during their visits to Jaipur. I checked them out recently and they have earnestly tried to maintain these to royal standards. The other rooms are, well, OK.

Thanks.

Since you're a history freak, is there anything spooky in the Raj Mahal's past? ... It's got a vibe ...

.. To continue, nothing unpleasant, quite the contrary; but a vibe, nevertheless.

hotels

! had a fantastic meal here in Boston(USA) at my favorite seafood restaurant. They imported the chefs from India for a month of Ayurvedic cooking. Chef Suresh Vaidyanathan of the Bombay Oberoi Hotel. Is this considered a top hotel??The other chef was Babu Raj Salipa of the Banglalore Oberoi, and consultation of the organic spice growers in Kerela.

Hotels In India

Hi Ajay, Lily, & Others,

Thanks alot for all your input. BTW, I took Lily's advice for the Park Hotel in New Delhi, it seems she really liked this hotel. BTW, I was quoted Rs 4500(about 90 US) for a standard room & just for curiousity sake, I asked them to quote me for their presidential suite also, which they said would be for Rs 7500 (about 155 US).

Since I've never stayed at a Presidential Suite before or ever will, I thought it would be something 'different' to do even if it's a bit higher than the standard room. But their suite seems pretty small at 680 square feet, I was expecting at least 1000 sq feet for such a suite as they do at other hotels. I'm assuming their standard rooms must be really, really small.

Anyway, this is a frivoulous question, but what do you guys think, it's worth it to stay at Park presedential suite for $65/more per night? I can't decide if I want to save money or experience staying in such a suite.

Durjay at
info@compass2rajasthan.com
will give you the best rates for the Park Royal. Last heard he was offering a standard room at USD 70/- including tax and breakfast. Why don't you check out with him?

But to answer your question, a Presidential suite at USD 155/- appears to be a bargain!

Go for it!
