hotels and advice 4 shimla, manali, chandigarh...

Greetings!

We are currently in Varanasi and we will be making our way up to Himachal Pradesh in 2 days. We have been in India for a month (and yes, we are still breathing, albeit somedays a very shallow breath) . The first part of our trip was so planned out and organized; however, we neglected to be so thoughtful when planning out our time in the North. AKA We need hotel rooms!!!

We are wondering if anyone has any suggestions for accomodations n Chandigarh, Manali, Shimla, and Mcleod Ganj. We've checked the hotel listings but was hoping some IMers might have some other hints or tips for rooms in these locations. Our specs are 250-400 rs., private bathroom, and cleanliness. Any other tips or advice about H.P. are welcome as well...

thank you~*

I liked the Hotel Dalziel in Shimla. It was clean and friendly, conveniently located between the train station and the mall, and was 400 for a spacious single room.

hi frd, nice to hear from u that u r going to look forword my country towards himalayas. so well only in chadigarh u need to pay 600 rupees, but overall for himachal pradesh u need to pay just 200 rupees to 400 rupees with private bathroom. from chandigarh u need to go kalka just 25 km n from there u can catch narrow gauge train to shimla its very nice experience. in manali i know very friendly family guest house in vashisht village where u can also have ntural hot water spring bath. so they will give u room just in 250 rupees including heater private bathroom n also kitchen the room inside n outside made from pinewood n having wonderful view of snow copped himalayas n river beas. the guest house name is vashisht guest house n owner name sanju baba. u would really enjoy it. its promise n in dharamshala u can goto bhagsunath area where u can find several guest house having private bathroom n nice view of himalayas range name dholadar

DEAR HILL PANTHER,
I just read your advice and will take that, I and my wife are driving to manali on 7th Oct from Delhi. Want to break at mandi or Bilaspur on way rather than driving straight, can you suggest something and some place on way ? And for a day in Kulu?

Stayed at the YMCA in Shimla - great location and atmosphere (jsut next to the mall road). Squeky clean. Say, if you are going to HP, I would definitely recommend a day or 2 at Mc Leod Ganj - feels like you are in Tibet! And who knows, you may be lucky and get to see and listen to the Dalai Lama (we did!)!!

dear friend,
i think it willbe much better to stay in bilaspur or mandi u should stay in Rewalsar lake. to get this place only 15 km before mandi the small city come its name ner chowk from here the riwalsar is only 14 km.this is very nice peaceful place with the combination of three religion n beatiful lake. so here u can find the sikh temple the hindu temple n ofcourse the ttibetian monastries as well.
if u dont mind it then u should stay at visco resort just 5 km before mandi.or if u want to stay in tourism hoel so near the bus stamd about 5oo mt hotel nname mandav. have a nice time n wish u a happy journey

hiya...im in chandigarh, for about rs 500, you should get an aircon room in sector 17 ( the main shopping plaza) at a place called haryana hotel, the guy will quote about 700 but you can bargain him down. Very reasobanbly priced accommodation in form of small hotels ( well more of b&bs actually) is also available opposite the bus station..in sector 22, the cleanliness may be a bit suspect so best check out the rooms before putting a deposit. It would be convenient for you as most tourist buses that head to HP ( volvo included) have their booking offices in sector 22. Having said that, sector 17 is only a 5 minute rickshaw ride away from sector 22.

For manali id recommend a place called apple view guest house, its run by a family and is very clean..and its rs 125 for double occupancy! they have a website at http://www.darksunvisual.com/appleview/index.html

should you need aany assistance when you are in chandigarh, feel free to mail me and if im in town, id be happy to help.My details are on my profile

enjoy your trip

Thumbs up Stay at Mc Leod Ganj

Used the LP listed places in Mc Leod ganj - and stayed at Tashi Khansang - good value with a friendly Tibetan family staying downstairs and good company in the form of other travellers. there are plenty of other unlisted but good options too if you have the patience to walk n shop around a bit.

It certainly isn't. However, one may say the same thing about this forum, for that matter !

Both represent points of view of individuals who have experienced a given place at a given time and have voiced their opinions based on these experiences.

LP is a guide. Any place is ultimately to be experienced by the traveller.
