Hotel Sheela: Agra

Hello,

Anyone know an up-to-date email address for Hotel Sheela in Agra.

Mail sent to both info@hottelsheelaagra.com and hotelsheelaagraindia@yahoo.com have been returned to my email address.

I stayed at this hotel, and, if I recall, had previously had the same problem with those email addresses, which are obsolete; I ended up telephoning them, which turned out to be fairly painless. It was worth it -- the location of Hotel Sheela right near the eastern gate of the Taj, plus its pleasant grounds (a bit like walking through tropical gardens) made it an ideal choice, even with a defunct email!

Hi. We stayed there in December '04. I asked about email and they don't have it. However, the owner is opening up a second hotel down the road. The website will be http://www.sheelainn.com/.

A few comments on the hotel. The rooms are very small and very basic. We had a room with hot shower but the shower head was heavily calcified and water was a trickle. In fact, we didn't have hot water for 3 out of 4 days so we got a discount on the room. If you decide to stay here, just get the room without shower. They will bring you a pail of hot water whenever you ask.

In spite of this, I heavily recommend staying at the hotel. The garden is a God-send. In fact, we found it to be the nicest garden in all of our travels in India. Tables all over, candles at night, bougenvelia bushes and other flowers. A bit of peace of quiet after dodging touts. The staff is the greatest and work very hard to ensure a pleasant stay. The food is tasty and safe.

As well, there is a beautiful German Shephard called Tiger who loves attention but will not seek it if you don't like dogs.

I always call that place. The written communication is not so certain in India..

The roomy location, restaurant and garden make this place great but I too thought the rooms were pretty dingy. There are the hotels in Tajganj with the Taj views, but you can walk there and have a meal on the roof while staying at this better place.
Mind that coming by rickshaw they are not allowed to putter up to Sheela's main gate - you have to walk the last 300m due to the pullution-free zone.

Smile Hotel Sheela - Agra

The same happened to me. I even tried contacting them via the link on their website to no avail. In the end I asked contacts in India to contact them - the news was that the hotel suited singles but not families and so I did not try to even ring them. I have decided to stay at the DeedarE Taj. See earlier suggestions by Indiamikers.

We called them direct from Canada. It only took about 3 minutes for them to take down our details and confirm our reservation. When we got there, they flipped throught their reservation book and our name was right where it should be. Keep in mind that Indian businessmen are not ones to let money slip through their fingers.
