Thanks for taking the time and trouble to post the hotels you've stayed at in the Hotel Listings section.
I see we've got a first for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands! |

Hi AlanD,
I took a look at "hotel listing section" to test a search of a place. I think it will be best to try to order the hotel listing first for city, then for rating and also for category (selected from a range of assigned prices) and related year of last rating. These criterions must be enclose (city's already) in the posting form. This will help to list the results. I tell you this because one it's interested in best rated places to look for first this in order to avoid long searches thru some bad rated places. It will be better to clearly say to rate good places first (find a bad one it's too easy already without help). Anyway if you put a rating while posting it will be automatically ordered - high to low- when searching. These are my two cents about. |

Hi Mistral!
We don't have a rating system similar to that generally used, which grades places on facilities offered and quality of accommodation. It's much more quirky than that - on indiamike people may grade hotels and guest houses on how they were welcomed, the view from the bedroom window, how noisy the street was outside, whether the food was good, and even whether there was a nice garden to sit in. I think you have to read the individual entries and hopefully get a feel as to why it was recommended or not. Also be aware that hotel owners can also list their properties in this section. To do as you suggest seems to me (I'm not a computer geek) to be quite difficult, and I'm not sure if it was done, it would give any more logical results. I would guess that if readers are looking for a place in a particular town or city, they would read through all the relevant listings anyway. However, I will pass on your suggestions to those who know about such things. ![]()

Hi All,
I know it's been sometime since I left anything on the forum. I may be out of line here but can I issue a heart felt and sincere (beg) plead. CAN IM'ers please start to add all of their recomendations for hotels in the hotel listings section as it speed up hotel searches. Further it would (god willing) stop newbies keep asking " I'am off to so and so and I'm staying at blah blah. Is it any good etc?" ![]() Sorry to be a whinge but it would be so helpful and thats what this is all about eh folks? A little help here! uhleaseTo those that so good on ya! To those that dont...get it together thats the essence of this happy place! Cheers :beer |

Havelock Island, Andamans
There are a number of very inexpensive 'resorts' comprising small huts on stilts, right on the beach. Each resort has about 10 to 12 huts so it does not get too crowded. Each hut, made of coconut palm leaves, measures just about 7ft. by 8 ft. or so and has space for only two mattresses covered with a mosquito net. For privacy, simply roll down a plastic sheet covering the entrance. The bedsheets were unclean so carry your own. There are common toilets and showers which are well maintained and quite clean with no charge for use. A restaurant on the premises serves reasonably good food but alcohol is in limited supply with few choices, so best to take your own. In Dec. 2003 I paid Rs.50 for the hut which could accomodate two persons. Meals cost about Rs.75 each and breakfast was Rs.50. A bottle of beer cost me Rs.80. Getting to the Andamans is expensive but once there, it is cheap unless you stay in fancy star resorts. Public transport, especially ferries between islands, is very cheap too. For beach lovers, Havelock Island is the place to be. Miles of pristine beaches with not a soul in sight.
