Am arriving in Delhi in early sept and looking to stay in Paharganj for a few days. Am looking at something a lttle posher than the 250 rp for the first couple of days (while I acclimatise to the culture change) and the Prince Polonia appears to be in the range (up to 1000 rp).
Has anyone stayed here and is it worth the extra money. Are there alternatives I should consider. I was then thinking of moving onto something like the RAK International or the Star Paradise for some slightly cheaper alternatives. also I was wondering where the best place is to hang out to pick up a travelling companion since I'll e on my own. Thanks |

There are a lot of hotels in Arakashan Road, a couple of blocks over from Main Bazar. It's not as chaotic there, and you can get a good clean room with bathroom and tv for Rs.500. I'd suggest Hotel Yuvraj Deluxe, they have good room service. There are literally dozens of hotels in this area, so you can have a wander and check out the others in the area if you still want to.

the rak is ok!
if you do end up in paharganj, the rak is ok! the staff were lovely and the room was decent enough. i paid 250 for a single but had a big room with a/c and hot water.

George,
i arrive in Delhi on 1st September and am staying at the Ajanta on the Arakashan Road (Paharganj area). It looks nice and clean, they are picking me up from the airport for free and it costs US$8 per night for a single with a/c. Not sure of the website but if you google "Ajanta Delhi" you will find it. I too am a solo traveller so if you are around at the same time a beer or 2 may be on the cards. |

The Ajanta is next door to the Yuvraj. I've stayed at both and much preferred the Yuvraj as my room was quieter and the service was better. The Ajanta did have an internet room and restaurant, tho, but you don't need to stay there to use them. The Yuvraj does have a rooftop area to eat, if you want. In any case, as I said, check out Arakashan Road because there's lots on offer and -- I think -- of a better quality than Main Bazar.

Horsebox - I arrive on the night of the 6th so if you're still in Delhi then a beer sounds great. Sorry for the delay but I didn't realise I had extra replies - the auto emails seem to stop after the first couple which I guess is fair enough. I'll login to the site to see if you're around.
