Hotel in Chandigarh
Hello,
Myself and 3 co-workers will be travelling to chandigarh in late september, and would like to know if anyone can recommend a decent hotel. Decent being - safe, hot and cold water, and maybe air-conditioning. Any suggestions? thanks Wade |

Malvin, thanks for the quick response. Would you know approximately how much the room rates are at the Aroma. I've seen there are some 4 star hotels as well (the sunbeam and piccadilly), is there much difference between them. My company is happy to pay up to $US65 per night, maybe more.
I'm assuming you've been to Chandigarh a few times before (thanks for the reply on the transport forum). Is there much to do in the city? My fiance and my co-workers' husband will be travelling with us and will have the days to themselves while we work. Any good websites you can recommend would be most helpful? |

WadeJ,
In my opinion, Chandigarh is one of the finest cities in India. There are many who will disagree. Places to visit are : The Secretariat, Punjab University campus, Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake and the Sector 17 supermarket. The Rose Garden in Sector 16 is lovely too, but I doubt whether you'll see many roses in October. Outside Chandigarh(20 kms.) are the Yadavindra Gardens at Pinjore, on route Shimla. Then there's the Nangal dam, 114 kms. away. Hotel Metro35 in Sector 35C is a very good place to stay at. The current tariff should be Rs.1200-1400 for a DBR. The following links will be useful: http://www.indiantravelportal.com/chandigarh/ http://chandigarh.nic.in/ http://www.fhrai.com/hotelsrch2.asp

hi,
i think shimla has made my job easier,he has listed almost all the places worth a visit in chandigarh.i don`t want to be unfair to simla many in india do think that way.i grew up there.don`t expect much, the city has a flair of the former east bloc cities, minus any historical or cultural sites. as far as the hotels are concerned the aroma and the mountview are the oldest in the city.the most of the hotels are concertated in sector 22 & 35.that is close to sector 17,the downtown.the place good for shopping, especially if you want to take some souveniers back home, the punjab, haryana,j&k and some cottage industry co-ops have their emporiums with fix rates.quite a few good bookshops are also located there and of course are cafes, restaurants and pubs. the rock garden and yadvindra gardens, pinjore are particularly interresting, may be a half day`s trip to kasauli in the hills! if you google chandigarh, punjab(first two results are from the indian punjab),haryana and himachal tourism, you will have an insight into chandigarh and its suroundings.search for chandigarh hotels has few websites on the net as well. malvin |

The only good thing about Chandigarh is that it makes for an easy getaway to Himachal. Pinjore Gardens are worth a visit. You may also want to go to Kasauli (Hill Station) in Himachal which is not too far away. HOTEL SHIVALIKVIEW in sector 17C is a decent hotel. room price for a deluxe double was around 2500RS when I last stayed here. |

Hotel Mount View
I will recommend Hotel Mount View if you can afford it. I think you should be able to get a room for around $US65 per night there. That is where our company CEO and other big people stay at.
Check following link for more information: http://www.indiatravelite.com/accomm...chandigarh.htm I stay in Chandigarh. PM me if you need any help. Wish you a nice stay in Chandigarh -Sandeep |
