One of the moderators needs to make a sticky for newcomers to read PRIOR to posting threads on PLACES TO STAY. Or at least restrict the initiation of new threads to who have 10 or more posts. Reading a redundant "I'm a single white female that'll be in Delhi for 2 days on a full moon in November, who knows of a place to stay?" every hour is really getting annoying. Especially when the resources for places to stay in Delhi are WIDELY AVAILABLE. It's even more abrasive when it comes from people that are only joining IM to post a few messages regaring the information they are too lazy to fetch themselves.

Delhi 110006 is around ISBT(Inter State Bus terminal) or old Delhi.
The choices to stay in this part of Delhi may be limited.
Whats your bugdet and what kind of accommodation are you looking at? This may help us in suggesting something.
Also please see the hotel recomendation section on this site.

Of course you're going to have limited hotels when you search by a SINGLE postal code. In spite of your unwillingness to fend for yourself, this information is readily available on the web. It's infuriating when this information can be had by using google and the carefully prepared hotel section on this website. We are talking about guesthouses Delhi here, not a cheap hostel with WiFi and a putting green adjacent to the volcano in Bora Bora. It's polite to post a few constructive comments ("hi, i'm sander from de nederlends" is not a constructive post) on a web forum prior to initiating threads asking for us to serve information to you on a silver platter. We're not travel agents. You're travelling transcon, it's supposed to be an adventure.

what is phobals problem????

Phobal I also agree Ashimann.... the hotel section isnt really that great and looking or asking for extra comments or places to stay is not an undecent thing to do... Its common sense! I also would not like to arrive somewhere that I had hardly read about or didnt have several recommendations to go off.
Get a life and calm down.....

In the spirit of Indiamike?

Welcome Ashimann

I don't know if this is any use to you, but we stayed at Hotel Broadway on Asaf Ali Road (110002) and foound it perfectly situated for visiting old Delhi.
The rooms were fairly basic, but clean, quiet and comfortable (I think we paid around 1600 rupees for a double room.

I hope you enjoy reading Indiamike as much as I do - and that you won't be put off by some people who aren't necessary welcoming to newcomers.

Good luck with your hotel search.

Relax phobal, adumin et al... we all get crazy days..

anyhow, info on hotels in old delhi will be hard to find IMO.
You might want to try hotels in Karol Bagh or the not very recommended paharganj....

Generally for people who reach Delhi or anywhere in India without having fixed hotel reservations i recommend to land there first, check in into some type of starred hotel (possibly close to the airport) use the first day to look for one that suits your location, budget etc...

my 2 paisa..

Om shanti...

Hi Isabelle

We were only in Delhi for 24 hours - due to a change of plan and rail route. However, we found Hotel Broadway to be highly suitable for our needs! It is quite near the railway station, just a short tempo ride infact - and we were easily able to walk to Jami Masjid, Red Fort & Chandri Chowk. It was also about 30 minutes walk from Connaught Place. The hotel helped us to arrange a private car and guide to give us a guided tour of some of the most important sights (sites?) in Delhi , so although I don't know whether they are able to arrange airport pickups, I would strongly suspect they are.

They were also kind enough to extend our check-out deadline at no extra cost so that we could use the room and freshen up after our city tour and before we had to leave for the railway station again. The Room Service lunch, eaten at a window table looking out over Delhi in our room was one of the best meals we had in India.

If you are wanting 5* facilities (pool, shopping mall etc etc) then Hotel Broadway isn't for you - but if you are wanting a good, honest, safe hotel that is a cut above - then I can't recommend it highly enough.

Have a great time

Judi
