Hostelbookers.com: Is it reliable/dependable?

While searching availability and booking of budget type of accommodation in Srinagar, J & K State, India, I came across the above website (HOSTELBOOKERS.COM), which has a listings of many House Boats & Hotels, and many of which fall under budget category and their quoted tariff appear to be very reasonable.

Obviously, I am tempted to book my accommodation through this site. But, I haven't used this website earlier, even I don't know anyone who had done so either. Under this situation, I seek the help of our IM community. Does any one of you had ever used the services of Hostelbookers.com and if so can you please share your feedback about the reliability and dependability of this particular site? Thanks for the help.

Just come to my notice:

There is a thread in this forum: Hostel Bookers?? and this thread has a few posts regarding performance of Hostelbookers.com. Generally speaking, people seem to happy with their services. But I find that all the feedbacks pertain to bookings made for outside Indian sub continent, whereas I want feedback on India-specific hostel/hotel/house boat bookings. Can someone help please! Thanks.

I've booked with hostelworld.com. Very similar. Never had a problem with them and the hostels have always been adequate for my needs. Although I've never booked in India with them...

I booked a room in...Jaipur, I think. Description said all rooms were A/C, and the site didn't leave any option for only 1 traveler (me), so I booked a double room. Then I contacted the hotel just to confirm. Turns out that hostelbookers' description of the rooms was VERY different form the hotel's own website. Among other things, only a handful of the rooms were A/C, and they were more than twice the rate quoted on hostelbookers. I cancelled my reservation, and the hotel manager was really apologetic.

So...my advice would be to promptly confirm with the hotel that you are getting what you are paying for.

Asish, I don't book no nothing. But I reckon if it works for foreigners, it should work for residents just as well.

Yes, haha, and I can see the joke.

But if someone reports seeing a booking site for India that gets reported on as being OK by foreign travelers, I wouldn't assume there'd be too much reason it wouldn't be OK if you weren't a foreigner.

Then again what indeed do I know, it's just not how I get around. That however and thankfully wasn't the question. (I can tell you it can sometimes be a pain in the behind to not have anything planned, you betcha.)
