This is a good option...
Kalpna Guesthouse in the Log Huts area. The Log Huts area is between Old Manali and New Manali. Up a curving road. The hotel is about a 3 minute walk from to the Hadimba Temple. The Kalpna is set in an apple orchard and has a nice garden with tables. Some beautiful views.... Rooms are good value price-wise. Clean, Carpeted, TV, big windows with good veiws of the mountains and valley...It is middle-priced place. You can get rooms for 500 rupees or less in off season. But prices go up the later you go in the year (Mid-April to Mid-August). It's a well established for many years. Raj is the manager. Tell him American woman named Tina sent you...:-) Whatever you do...Don't stay in the Mall in Manali. It is noisy and crowded. |

Log Huts Area is a good location. It is walking distance (5 minutes) to Old Manali Bridge and New Manali and Hadimba. Close enough to go to restuarants and shopping and also removed enough for some peace. There are even some lovely walking paths further up beyond the mega-Indian monstrousity hotels.
Solang is nice, but somewhat isolated from the rest of the valley. It has a handful of Indian Hotels and a couple of Dhabas, the paragliding company and horse men. At night, if you want to go to out, then there is not much to do. And if you want to go to Manali, Vashist expect a 20minute drive to anything. No, Solang is better for a day trip. You can hike between Old Manali along village trails to Solang. It takes 3 to 4 hours. I am finished giving advice. Best of Luck |
